I am delighted to inform you that Mrs Nicolette Stewart will be your child’s Year 1 teacher for next year.

This is Mrs Stewart’s fourth year at Dwight and she has a deep care for her students, personalises their learning and really knows them as individuals, which helps her to tune into their Sparks of Genius. She has taught in six countries and is passionate about creativity, nurturing open-mindedness, and raising global citizens. I feel her personality matches this class very well and she will build on the fantastic start to schooling that they have had with Ms Kavya. I have seen first hand Ms Stewart’s fantastic teaching and classroom management, and always see the mutual warmth and connection she has with students as well as the ability to make learning enormously fun!

I am delighted to inform you that Ms Laura Freeman will be your child’s teacher for the Year 2 and 3 combined class. Ms Freeman is best placed to build on the academic successes of the class from this year and knows the children well, ensuring that they make great progress in all areas of school life after their time with Mrs Voica.

As a reminder of Ms Freeman’s background, she is our school pedagogical leader for the Primary Years Programme in our Junior School, and she is the PYP Coordinator, meaning she is a true expert in her field. She has a wealth of experience in a wide range of year groups in a myriad of international school settings, having taught in Rome, Switzerland and Cambodia. 

She is highly skilled at differentiation, providing stretch and challenge when needed as well as scaffolding and support, and this was one of the reasons why she was chosen to lead our combined Year 2 and Year 3 class. Ms Freeman knows the journey of a PYP student, having previously taught a combined Reception and 1 class as well as successfully teaching Reception, Year 1 and Year 3 in her time at Dwight. 

I would like to reassure you that this mixed Year 2 and 3 class will give all students the teaching they need to progress and grow their learning as is appropriate for their age and year. We recognise that Year 3 is a year of increased independence in self-management and organisation, alongside being the bridge to further academics in Year 4 and beyond. These skills will be developed along with the key focus of academic growth and nourishment during the entire 2026/2027 school year. For Year 2, they are deepening the learning begun this year and will develop more connections with their learning across topics and subjects to ensure they use the knowledge they have gained more deeply as they gain wider skills as Year 2s.

I am delighted to write to let you know about your child’s class teacher for Year 4. Next year the class will be taught by Miss Eli (who the children know well) and a wonderful new teacher called Ms Megan Cahill, who will be joining Dwight as our new Assistant Principal.

Miss Eli is an experienced, qualified Primary Years class teacher and has been teaching across the PYP at Dwight alongside her Art role with great success. Her warmth, connection to students, and the joy she brings to learning have made her a much-loved teacher in our community over the years, and she will be a fantastic asset to the Year 4 classroom.

Ms Cahill joins us as our Year 4 teacher and Assistant Principal, having taught across the primary school age range. She has a wealth of experience, having trained in the UK and taught around the world. Ms Cahill has a Masters in Innovation in Teaching and Learning and her dissertation focused on inquiry-based learning, which makes her a great fit for Dwight.

Over the past 3 years, she has taught in an IB school in Australia and is now looking forward to returning to the UK and having a big impact on our community. We were so impressed with Ms Cahill’s calm, thoughtful teaching, the connections she makes with students and her skill at ensuring students make progress within the IB. Ms Cahill will be meeting the students online during Moving Up Day, before her arrival in London the week of the 6th of July. We extend a warm invitation for parents to meet Ms Cahill on Tuesday 7th July from 8:30am in the staffroom.

This will very much be a co-teaching model with planning, assessment and class tasks done collaboratively. Miss Eli will lead the class for 3 days and Ms Cahill will lead for 2 days, while giving her time to be our Assistant Principal. Year 4 is a year that brings fresh opportunities for our young learners and is the point when the important transition to the Upper Primary levels begins. Ms Eli and Ms Cahill are ideally placed to build on the academic successes of Year 3 under Ms Freeman’s guidance, as well as continue with a shared commitment to personalising the learning of all students.

I am delighted to inform you that Ms Gabriella Voica will be your child’s Year 5 teacher for next year. 

Mrs Voica is a lead teacher in the Junior School, with a wide range of experience across the Primary Years Programme at Dwight School London. She is highly skilled at differentiation, developing learners' independence and confidence. These were the key reasons why she was chosen to lead this Year 5 class, as she will bridge the learning from Year 4, getting students ready for an important Year 6. Ms Voica brings energy, enthusiasm and innovation to the classroom and is our lead for all things connected to the school’s environmental focus.

I am delighted to inform you that Ms Alyssa Birch will be your child’s Year 6 teacher for the next academic year. As you may know, our current Year 6 teacher, Mrs Buchholtz, is expecting her first baby this summer and will be returning to New York after two very successful years with Year 6.

Ms Birch is Canadian and is currently in an IB school in Cambodia, having previously taught in Mexico and as an Education Intern in Uganda. Ms Birch’s experience is in IB schools globally and she has taught across the PYP, including in Year 6. We have been very impressed with how she develops agency and growth for her learners and bridges emotional security with academic excellence. She is moving to London from Cambodia over the summer and will meet the class online during their Moving Up Day on the 29th of June.

Having spent considerable time during and after the interview process getting to know Ms Birch, I have been consistently impressed and wowed by her knowledge and warmth, both in her pedagogical understanding of the IB alongside an astute emotional intelligence of how to guide young learners. Ms Birch is certain to be a wonderful addition to the staff team, with expert skill in ensuring robust academic progress is made by all learners in a classroom full of fun and enjoyment. We have seen first hand Ms Birch’s skill at connecting with students, and she is well poised to gently guide them as they navigate the many milestones in their last year of the Primary Years, which includes the PYP Exhibition, the residential trip to New York, and the shift that enables children to mature into young people ready for Secondary School. 

Our incoming Year 6 students are a group of children I connect with very closely and who I have seen make excellent progress throughout this year. I will continue to support their learning and social development and to ensure the onboarding process of Ms Birch into our school community is robust. I have been telling the class since I joined Dwight when they were in Year 3 that I will be going to New York with them in the Summer of 2027, and I am already excited to spend this once-in-a-lifetime trip with them!
