Year 6 and Year 5 visited the Upper School this week as part of their transition. They met M1 students, took part in lessons, met more Upper School staff and had a really interesting and enjoyable experience.
Year 2 have been thinking hard about good questions to ask that would help them find out about inventions and machines. They even saw a picture of the first helicopter designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Year 5 enjoyed finding out about space at the Science Museum and followed this up with work about the differences between a galaxy, a solar system and a universe. Can you explain those differences?
Year 4 have started to look at their Unit of Inquiry about exploration. They were visited by Christopher Columbus (who looked a lot like Mr. van den Bosch). Mr. Columbus told us he was inspired to explore and find the Spice Islands from reading the diaries of Marco Polo. Year 3 performed their assembly to the parents this morning. It was both educational and informative. They shared what they had learnt about fables and the morals behind them, demonstrated by the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. They also performed a little show about houses called Through the Keyhole. It looked a lot of fun. On Tuesday, Year 1 had their lessons at the Victorian classroom at St Albans Cathedral. They did the 3R's (reading, writing and arithmetic) in the Victorian way. The children dressed in Victorian costumes and played various games from over 100 years ago. It was an amazing day but they were glad to be back at Dwight School.
Our footballers took part in a five-a-side competition earlier this week. Mr Cusack was impressed with their tenacity and team spirit. After a difficult start they went on to win 50% of their matches. Clubs Lower School clubs started successfully this week. We have Archery taking place in the Hall. In Performance Club the students were informed that the production this term is going to be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, they are super excited and cannot wait to start rehearsing next week. In Stop Animation Club students experimented and worked together to create short films and in EAL club the students played fun language games with word cards.
