Residentials Residentials Residentials - What a week!

As you may already be aware this is our residential week for the upper primary students and they have been staying at various venues sleeping over and learrning new skills.

Year 5 measured rivers, caught (and released) small animals, went on a hike at night and even worked together to identify different flora, fauna and fish! All this took place at Flatford Mill.

Year 4 completed some orienteering. They tried out some team building games and enjoyed a Year 4 Talent Show

Year 3 made and ate sushi, designed key rings,  enjoyed some nail decorations and played some sports.

All the students got an opportunity to develop their independent skills. They have got better at washing, table manners, cleaning, organising their resources, making their bed, and keeping their shared areas tidy.

Well done to all three year groups, although you may have been nervous to start with, you demonstrated courage and hopefully enjoyed the experience of learning whilst being away from home on a residential trip.

Taking Action
Some of our Year 6 children decided to take action this week!! They are all very passionate about the care of animals and decided to support the Pioneers charity; Wood Green Animal Shelter. Sofia, Alex, Miya and Karina contacted the shelter and asked if they could come and volunteer, unfortunately you need to be over 18 years old to volunteer. However, this did not stop them, they then decided to make cat toys and on Thursday they took these to the shelter and met some of the cats whilst there they found out about many different ways Lower School can continue to support them. They will be sharing this with the whole school in an Action Assembly after the Easter break!!! Here is a photograph of Alex meeting Oscar, a resident of the shelter who has had a very close shave!!!

Talent Show

Last Friday afternoon it was our Lower School Talent Show. Here are some pictures of the event, you can also see the video from the show here. I was very impressed with the singers, gymnasts, musicians and performers.  Well done.

Year 2 Assembly About Culture
It was great to watch Miss Hendry, Mrs. Majavedia and the students from Year 2 all share their stories about their home culture. Some were recorded as videos, some were books and some were pictoral. It is great that we have students from such diverse backgrounds. I was lucky enough to spend some time with them last week when they made their own Goldilocks and the Three Bears story to fit their cultures.

Miss Hendry decided that the three bears should try on clogs to represent The Netherlands whereas Taira thought there should be three red pandas instead of three bears to represent Japanese culture (very cool).

Year 5 Art

Mrs. Boughton wanted to share this picture of the Year 5 Mask display. It demonstrates lots of creativity and the students were very proud of their work. We are too!

Next week Parental Invites

I can't believe there are only four days left this term. It seems to have flown by. Next week there are a few reminders for parents as we have two events that you are welcome to attend:

  • Science Fair on Wednesday, 28th March from 2-3pm.
  • Fun Run and International Breakfast on Thursday, 29th March from 9-10.30am.

Dwight Radio Update

We often use the radio station to record and share our learning. Our recorded shows will now be accessible for the remainder of the school year and can be listened to at any time. Click on the Radio Programme button to listen to our Digital Leader DJs hosting the shows. Maybe you could find DJ MI and DJ KP?

Enthusiastic Learning
Our students have developed a real enthusiasm for learning. I have visited many classes where the students have wanted to share their work and experiences.  When I write these newsletters I often refer to learning, as it is at the very centre of everything we do. If together, we can continue to develop enthusiastic learners, to share a love of learning then our students will be successful in the many different aspects of their lives. Hooray for enthusiastic learning!

Super Question and Language of the Week

Last week our Super Question was : Which country celebrates St Patrick's Day? Alfie in Year 5 told us that it was Ireland and he got a Sparky for being so knowledgeable. Next week we have asked Who won the boat race?

Our language of the week next week is going to be Indonesian.

And finally...

Have a great weekend and don't forget the clocks spring forward on Sunday!
