We trust that you had a good break from school and wish you well for the term ahead; it should be a sunny one! | | This week was our Science Week. We invited in the company Mad Science to share an entertaining and informative assembly about lift, gravity and air. We made paper planes and judged them in terms of flight time and distance. We talked to the students about the need to always ask questions, set hypotheses and learn from conclusions in science experiments. Many thanks to Mr. Van den Bosch, who led the activities this week. | As part of Science Week we celebrated Earth Day and talked about sustainability, carbon footprints and as Ella in Y5 said, 'We need to make sure we look after the Earth in the same way it looks after us'. The students enjoyed watching videos about choices and how to reduce their carbon footprint. We shared some ideas for making the school more eco-friendly including adding a wind turbine to the school and making sure that we used more energy-efficient lighting. We switched off lights and electrical devices on Thursday afternoon to save energy. Our elected Eco Rangers spent time in different classes talking about carbon footprints and playing some eco games with each class.
Year 6 are getting ready for the visit of their sister school from New York. Thirty Grade 5 students from Dwight New York are due to land in London on Sunday, 1st May to spend a week in London with our students and their families. This is a reciprocal trip and our Year 6 students fly to New York and stay with Dwight New York families from Saturday, 14th May.
It is the start of a new term and that means that for many students we will be starting new Units of Inquiry within the curriculum. We publish our Curriculum Overviews every term on the website; click here to view links for Kindergarten and Reception, and here to view links for Year 1 to Year 6. They will show you some of the learning that will take place this term. Next week the Lower School after -chool clubs start. There is a wide range of activities and we encourage students to commit every week and to be organised and ready for their club. The clubs run until June 24th of this term.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
We want to say thank-you for your help and support for our performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that took place on Wednesday, 23rd March. It was such a great night. All of the students from Year 3 to Year 6 were involved and they, too, enjoyed it. We had a collection on the evening for our two chosen charities and collected £284 that will be shared between our chosen charities WWF and the North London Hospice. | | Super Question and Language of the Week
Super Question This week so our super question was What new Olympic sport involving eagles will take place during the Summer Olympics in Rio 2016? Callum in Y3 was very knowledgeable and explained that the sport was golf and an eagle is when you score 2 less than par.
Next week our super question is to find out Who is 452 years old and died 400 years ago this week?
Language of the Week Our languages of the week are Korean and Russian.
