Lower School Newsletter

Learning in the Lower School

Ace Time
What a great day we witnessed on Wednesday! It was our annual Maths Day when students split into groups and tried out a variety of maths puzzles in a variety of settings - this year we included learning engagements in: 2D shapes, number, measuring, capacity, tesselations, time, volume, 3D shapes, weight and patterns. Well done to everyone and particularly to Ms. Dunaway for organising it.

The Dwight Radio Logo Competition closed last Friday. Judging took place on Monday and Mrs Hornshaw, Mrs Rehman and I were hugely impressed with the quality of entrants. After a very difficult time judging, we agreed that our joint winners were Joao in Y5 and Rione in Y6 - special runners-up mention goes to to Ethan Y4, Sofia Y3, Elina Y4, Harel Y5 - all others entries get 2 points each.

Well done to the boys in the Football team who played last Friday. Ben, the football captain, has written a great report of the matches played so far that we will be sharing towards the end off the season.

Finally, thanks to everyone for participating in the Children In Need event today.  It was great to see so many children involved and it is always nice to know that they are helping disadvantaged children throughout the UK and the rest of the world. Last week we collected money for the poppy appeal and we raised £57.25.

Swimtastic!

Our swim team took part in the Inter-Schools Swimming Competition on Thursday. Very well done to Milla, Joshua H, Saranya, Alex B, Antoni, Theo, Eliza, Alexandra H, Alex J, Marika , Ben, Joshua M, Joshua S, Ines S, Tamar, Rione Miya, Sterre and Alice. We competed very well, in front of a large audience and we got a top 5 finish - Well done to everyone concerned.

Recycling in Year 2

It was really nice to meet the Year 2 class on Thursday who wanted to interview me about my recycling habits. They collated the information about recycling, they documented the answers on their clipboards, and this also linked this in with their Maths work on surveys. They were all very pleasant, very polite and very inquisitive.

A FREE Taste Tastic Week in the Lower School

With the dark cold mornings now here, how would you love a week of not having to get up and make a packed-lunch for your son or daughter?

Holyroyd Howe would like to invite all children in the Lower School to enjoy their Food, Glorious Food, for a week, for FREE from 28th November - 2nd December! This will be a fantastic opportunity for children that are currently having home lunch to be risk-takers and try out new foods. It will also give parents time to have an extra cup of coffee in the morning, without the worry of what to pack for lunch for a whole week!

If your child currently has school lunch, do not worry, you are not going to miss out on the free lunch for a week, one week will be deducted from your Term 2 lunch fees. Look out for more details coming soon.
