Learning in the Lower School

Ace Time

Year 3 shared their learning with us on Friday morning. They looked at conflict resolution. This is an important part of their learning. They use the S.A.L.T. method which stands for Stop Ask Listen Talk. It is a great strategy and the students demonstrated it very well. The Year 3 classes have also learnt about place value and what numerals represent when they are in certain places. To conclude they shared some creative shape poems. It was a great assembly and it was finished off by a short message from our Digital Leaders team about E- Safety- Well done everyone!

Our Book Fair took place last week. As a school we get a percentage of each book that is sold that can then be used to buy more books for the Lower School library. Mrs. Mastoridis has been very good at promoting this event and she has told me that we raised approx £775 to spend in our library. Our plan is to buy a selection of books that support some of the Units of Inquiry. We also wish to purchase more international books and more higher level reading books. Thanks again to everyone involved in the Book Fair, our next one is in 2017!

Dwight Radio put together a radio jingle this week to promote the Lower School Winter Fair - click here to listen to it.

On Friday we hosted a Decorating club also in preparation for the Lower School Winter Fair. For those of you new to the school. The Winter Fair is an annual event that this year will take place on Saturday, 10th December - Jake and Rebecca in Year 6 wrote the following about the Fair:
Once again we are having a Winter Fair. There will be lots of activities to look forward to and to take part in. Year 6 have been preparing by making amazing decorations and centrepieces for your Christmas tables. We also have a variety of other decorative products for those that celebrate other winter festivals. There will be activities such as barbecue, bouncy castle, international food store, raffle prizes, hot chocolate, mulled wine, mince pies, name the bear, lucky dip, arts and crafts, five-a-side football, books and toys, carols, stocking fillers, and even a Santa's grotto (Santa will be visiting). It will be such fun. We hope you will come!

Food Glorious Food

This week we tried our Food Glorious Food Initiative also known as Tastetastic!. It was nice to see some children risk-taking and trying out new foods. Throughout the week there was a selection of foods such as curries, sausages, fish beef as well as a large selection of healthy fruits and salads.
