Lower School Newsletter

Learning in the Lower School

Ace Time

We had some great art work shared with us by Year 1 this week. They had been looking at the work of many artists including Monet, Kandinsky, Seurat, Hundertwasser to express themselves. Their work was excellent and linked in beautifully with their Unit of Inquiry People express themselves through art and sculpture.

Year 6 have completed First Aid training as part of their WOW lesson this week. They are all now qualified First Aiders. They looked at things such as choking, bone injuries, bleeding, calling for help and being calm when accidents occur. To become a qualified First Aider at such a young age is a great achievement. The certificate lasts for 2 years.

Kindergarten and Reception went to the Arts Depot on Wednesday afternoon to see We are going on a Bear Hunt. They had a great time and behaved very well.

Year 5 have been working on their persuasive texts in the last few weeks and they have persuaded us that it would be a good idea to have a Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, 16th December. The Christmas Jumper Day is linked to the Charity Save the Children and is a national event raising money for children's causes around the world http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/ - All staff and students are asked to wear a Christmas jumper and give a donation on that day.

We are getting very excited about the Winter Wonderland Fair scheduled for Saturday. We will be having lots of fun and we will even be launching some of our radio shows in the Art room for you to listen to whilst purchasing a hot drink and a cake!

The Super Question was correctly answered by Charlie in 5GR. He gets a Sparky for being knowledgeable. He knew that St Andrews Day is celebrated in Scotland (and beyond) on 30th November.
Our Language of the week this week and next week is going to be Russian and Ukrainian and we were helped by Ella in Year 6. Our Super Question next week is What TV show is watched by more children than the X Factor?
