Whole School Newsletter

Alumni

At a recent meeting of the School Consultative Group we were discussing how the school measures its success in line with our vision and the IB mission that emphasises the calibre of the young people we are preparing to be engaged in the world beyond school. We strive to build confident, compassionate young people who influence the future.  How can we measure that?

Over the past few months I have had the pleasure of working with some of our alumni on interview panels. It was a delight to work with such dynamic, insightful and generous young people who were giving up their time and energy to support the school. It was also immensely satisfying to hear them say that their education had a positive impact on their outlook and their life choices. This is how we measure the success of the school – the quality of our graduates and the successes they experience as adults.

We are currently seeking ways to develop our alumni network and have set up an alumni group. The group is intended to support connections between those who have moved on from Dwight and to enable us to be in touch with them and find out about their post-Dwight journeys. If you are in touch with students or staff who have left Dwight please forward this link to them https://www.facebook.com/groups/dwightlondonalumni so that we can stay in touch.

University offers

For the majority of our alumni, their first stop after Dwight is University. Our D2 cohort are now hearing back from the universities and colleges they have applied to, and I wanted to share with you the variety of courses and institutions for which Dwight students are receiving offers. This list (which will grow over the next months) is a testament to the diversity in our student body and the favourable light in which universities hold the IB Diploma.

An Invitation for both Lower and Upper School Parents - Can you help?

University interviews:

Some of our D2 students have been called for interview as part of the university application process. We currently have students who have applied to study Politics and English who would benefit from interview practice. If you have expertise in either of these areas and would be willing to meet once or twice with a student to help prepare them for interview please get in touch.

Work experience:

Our M5 students are now planning their two week work experience placements that will take place from 26th June to 7th July and we would love to hear from anyone who would be able to support a student with a work experience placement. In particular we have students seeking placements in the following fields: scientific research, international banking/finance, Japanese companies and businesses, theatre and music production, international law, veterinary science (opportunities to work with animals), forensic science and fashion marketing.

If you are able to help with either the interviews or work experience, please contact our Careers and University Guidance counsellor, Fiona McCaffrey, at:

Personal Project Evening - 6pm Tuesday, 28th February
The M5 students are busy preparing for their Personal Project Evening. This is always a fantastic event that is well worth attending. Everyone in the school community is welcome to come along and see some of the the original and unique work that the students have completed independently in their own time. It is one of the central parts of the IBMYP and as you will see from their short promotional video here, it will definately be an evening not to be missed.
