Upper School News
This academic year has seen the students embrace their new Houses in school with the Pioneers, Artists and Visionaries running right through the Whole School from Early Years to Diploma. A series of activities throughout the year are designed to get us all involved and enthused with our renewed House team spirit. Next Thursday afternoon, the Upper School will put down our pens, shut the chrome-books and head off at 1.40pm to Bethune Park for an Inter-House Fun Run! It is cross country season so there will be some competitive elements as well as us all running to raise money through sponsorship for the three House charities. This week we had House assemblies and our student correspondents have set up a House Blog here so that you can keep up-to-date with House News.
Last Friday evening we had the D2 solo drama plays which were on topics very personal to the students. They all put on a spectacular show! Each play left the audience in awe.
Luke from M5Z said,'I had a great time watching the plays. The one I enjoyed the most was probably Austin's. It was experimental and served its purpose of shocking the audience with his intense and intimate acting style'. The D2s did an amazing job. Film Skool Premiere Event – this Saturday and next Monday
The Film Skool's Premiere is opening on Saturday, 3rd February at 10.30am to 12 noon at the Curzon Cinema, 38 Curzon Street, London and the second screening will be at school in the Jubilee Hall on Monday, 5th February at 6.30pm. All teachers and parents welcome! See Ms. Kennedy for more details.
Model United Nations in The Hague
We have been receiving updates from our MUN club attending the THIMUN event in The Hague this week with Ms. Murnaghan and Mr. Lucas. Starting as a local conference in 1968, The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) Foundation has grown immensely; four yearly THIMUN conferences are held, and recognized, worldwide.
Our students have been there representing Saudi Arabia and have learned a great deal about debating, international relations and diplomacy. To view more photos, please click here.
Jules attends the European Parliament
It wasn't only our MUN team carrying out European diplomacy! Jules in M5 was honoured to represent his Dutch online class as a student ambassador at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. He had a very interesting time and met others from all over the EU.
Jules says, 'we visited the History of European History museum and there all the junior ambassadors just talked to other people, getting to know each other. Then we did a quiz, and visited a section of the museum in groups. After that we went into the Parliament building itself and sat in one of the conference rooms (seen in the pictures) and anyone who was there could ask a question, and the 5 or 6 officials would discuss and answer it!'
Nepal Project Progresses
Ishani, Victoria, Ion, Claire, Judy, and Tara took part in the Skype with a Nepal school on Wednesday, the 30th of January, in the morning at 8:00am! We were catching up with the students from Nasarga school that we had previously talked to via Skype as well. This was a learning opportunity as we are going to Nepal in July this year. We had a chance to learn about the weather, the environment and some activities that we can take part in when we arrive there in the summer. Claire also presented her Personal Project which she had done on endangered animals. This was a learning opportunity for all of us, here in London and in Nepal, as we felt that we learned more about animal conservation efforts in Nepal. This week our school choirs from both the Lower and Upper School had the chance to sing at the Young Voices event at the O2 Arena. For the past 20 years, Young Voices has staged the largest children's choir concerts in the world.

Carnegie Trip leaves next Wednesday
Parents of students going on the Carnegie Trip to New York will have received an email letter on Thursday with all the final details of the trip. Mr. Kraft and his team are preparing all our musicians thoroughly with final rehearsals this Sunday and next Tuesday at 2.40pm. We wish him and all the people going a wonderful trip for this great event. You will be able to follow their progress via their blog on the school website.
Physics Trip next week
Our M5 and D1 Physicians are heading off to Friends House for a series of lectures on Tuesday, 6th February. Students need to meet Mr. Namgyal at Euston Square tube station at 10.15am and they will need to bring approximately £10 for lunch and drinks. The lectures finish at 3.30pm, and students will make their own way home from the venue.
Welcome to Deirdre Guerin
We warmly welcome Deirdre who has joined the staff as Dwight Office Administrator replacing Javier Dominguez who we gave a warm send off to on Wednesday. Thank you to all the parents who showed their appreciation for all Javier has done for families and students. He will be missed but his last gift to us was a thorough training for Deirdre who we wish all the best in her new role.
Important Reminder
As is the tradition, we remind you that the last Tuesday before half-term is a Development Tuesday where students (apart from the Carnegie performers) are leaving at 2.40pm so the staff can be involved in important training.

Come and join us for a fundraising evening of fun and games, and a delicious Indian dinner, at Dwight's Quiz Night on Saturday February 24th. Teams of 8 or 10 people go up against other Dwight parents and staff for a night of trivia! Since we come from all over the world, our quiz is really international. There's lots of picture quizzing, sport, music and pop culture questions so that everyone can have a no-pressure good time. It's a really fun evening of games and socialising with the Dwight community.
This is a major fundraiser for the Dwight Parent Association, this year supporting the Dwight School's very own Dragon's Den for students - the Spark Tank Project.

The 311-year-old story of Fortnum & Mason is one that's full of surprises. Join the Fortnum and Mason archivist for a tour of the building (with tastings), to hear the fascinating tales behind one of Britain's most loved icons, ending up with – what else – a cup of Fortnum's famous tea. Tour is from 11 - 12.45pm and we can decide to stay for lunch after.
