Friday, 2nd February 2018 Lower School Newsletter Learning in the Lower School Learning in the Lower School We have been sharing and celebrating our learning over the course of this week. Year 6 have continued their work on World War II. They reflected upon their interviews with evacuees last week, and they want to share photos of the artefacts they gathered as part of their unit on Conflict. Next week they will be starting their Unit of Inquiry on Governmental Systems by visiting Parliament on Tuesday, 6th February. Our after school clubs are full of fun activities Last week I spent time in Mosaic Club run by Mrs. Hornshaw helping Tess in Year 3 complete her tile plan on the computer. I also spent some time in Chess Club run by Mr. van den Bosch watching Eliza and Elina battle out a hard fought match that ended in an amicable draw. Clubs give our students a chance to take risks and to try something new, a chance to demonstrate their commitment, and of course a chance to learn in a new setting with a new group. The Year 5 students have continued to work this week on their mini exhibition that will take place next Thursday between 9.00am and 10.00am. They also thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Wallace Collection on Monday where they looked at a variety of art that linked some of their mathematical inquiries. They responded very sensibly when there was a fire alarm at the venue. Year 2 have been sharing their videos of science experiments. I was particularly impressed with Kade's experiment that demonstrated his knowledge of magnetism and gravity. Great stuff! ACE Time Congratulations to our Young Voices Choir who performed very well at the O2 on Wednesday. Well done to Miya, Sofia, Freya, Oliver, Charlie, Kana, Saranya, Bruno, Yu, Emma, Tamar, Alex H, Josh H, Rayaan and Ronika. Thank you to all of you for representing the Dwight School so well and to Mr Mastoridis and Mr Deneux. Please click here to view some fab photos of their time at the O2, and a wonderful blog from Saranya's sister in D1.

Super Question and Language of the Week Our Super Question last week was: Which Prime Minister has just announced that she is pregnant!? It was of course Jacinda Ardern, well done to Ali in Year 3 who got it right. We set the following topical Super Question for next week which is - What right did women gain in the UK, 100 years ago? Our Language of the Week was Korean and many thanks to Andrew in Year 3 who helped us to learn some new Korean words. Have a great weekend Matt Parkin
