Lower School Newsletter

Learning in the Lower School

It is great to be back after the half term break. I'm glad that the Lower School skiers had a lovely time in France over the break and our Upper School choir and music specialists performed so energetically at the Dwight Schools Concert in New York. You can view more photos from the ski trip here and photos from Carnegie Hall trip can be found here.

This week we have been enjoying lots of learning. Many classes are embarking on their new Units of Inquiry for this half term and the students seem refreshed and ready to learn.

The Digital Leaders in each class along with volunteers have been making short videos about internet safety this week. Mrs. Rehman has utilised a green screen in Eco 1 and the students have taken ownership of the videos that help their peers understand what to do to ensure a safe and successful computer experience. We look forward to sharing some videos with you next week.

This week we celebrated dance by inviting in a dance specialist to help us choreograph some routines. Each class enjoyed collaborating and performing their dance moves (perhaps some students are getting ready for the book week disco next Friday!)

Also this week we celebrated languages as it was World Language Day. Mrs. Bettelheim organised us into groups so that each student could try out some new languages such as Greek, German and Italian. The Lower school teachers got a chance to learn a new language too! What a lot of risk-takers and communicators we are!

On Friday the students in the Lodge celebrated 100 days of school by demonstrating what 100 looked like - 100 beads, straws, footsteps, fruit loops, coins, fingers, pieces of Lego and even sun glasses designed to look like the number 100.

Students will depart to and from the Lower School, they will need to bring an empty water bottle for a design project. Students who take the school bus home, will leave from the Upper School directly.
