Lower School Newsletter

Learning in the Lower School

This week has been a weather interrupted one. It has not stopped us learning and sharing our knowledge skills and understanding.

Online Safety
We have put together some top tips for online safety as was recorded by our students from across all age groups. Please check out our video here. These videos reinforce good habits and the importance of speaking out.

Book Week
We welcomed author Cliff McNish on Tuesday. He met the older classes and shared with them his inspirations for writing as well as some author 'top tips'. His website can be found here. The younger students took part in a dance workshop linked to books. They especially enjoyed dancing like oompa lumpas from the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! On Thursday, many members of staff wore tee shirts with quotes from books emblazoned on them. The students enjoyed matching the quotes to famous books. Unfortunately we did not have our Book Week dress up day and disco due to the bad weather, but we will plan and confirm an alternative date shortly.
Last Friday the students in the Lodge celebrated 100 days of school by demonstrating what 100 looked like - 100 beads, straws, footsteps, fruit loops, coins, fingers, pieces of Lego and even sun glasses designed to look like the number 100.

Year 5P Visit to the Upper School on Monday

Year 5P enjoyed visiting the Upper School this week on Monday. Year 5S visit next Monday and both classes will share their feedback about their experiences next week.

Meat-free Mondays
We were risk takers and tried a new menu on Monday. The initial feedback from students was positive so we will try a meat-free Monday for the following two weeks, too.

Super Question and Language of the Week

Well done to Neil in Year 6 who got the super question right - Norway won the most Winter Olympic medals. Next week we want to know: what country celebrates St David's Day?

Have a great weekend.

Matt Parkin
Lower School Principal
