Learning in the Lower School

This week the Reception class visited the park as part of their Unit on Senses.

At the end of last week they celebrated their coding skills too.

Each term we run an Inter House Competition and last term we opened this up to students who wanted to design a logo for their house. We have three houses in the Lower School: Discoverers, Inventors and Explorers. On Tuesday of this week the banners displaying the children’s logos were put up in the hall – Well done again to Pranay, Shusaku and Moeka who have their winning designs proudly flying in the hall.

Several students and their parents are getting ready for the school ski trip to France – They leave early tomorrow and we wish them well.

Last Friday our Year 4 students shared their work about explorers with their parents. It was great to see the wide range of explorers that the students had researched. They dressed up like the explorers and made the assembly a memorable one.

I spent some time in the Lower School Maths Club run by Mrs. Brooks. It was great to see students work out lots of mathematical problems. I also visited the Creative Club and the Coding Club. These clubs are run by students from the Upper School and are overseen by a member of the Lower School staff. Both Arun in M1 and Nicholas in D1 have been outstanding club leaders. They have been organised, have planned well and the Lower school students have enjoyed attending their clubs.

Super Question and Language of the Week

Super Question
Our Super Question was: What supersonic flight took place 40 years ago this week? It was Concorde as Rebecca in Year 5 correctly informed us. Our question for this week is: It is the Chinese New Year of the ……………..?

Language of the Week
Our Language of the Week was Mandarin; the school helper was Audrey in Year 2 who helped us to learn to say Happy New Year! Next week our Language of the week is going to be Cantonese.
