Welcome to this week's news!

Friday, 2nd November, 2018

In the week that Halloween is celebrated, I have seen quite a few Harry Potter characters out and about, some of them sporting Gryffindor scarves. Houses in British schools have evolved from boarding schools when the Houses were actually boarding houses. The Harry Potter books and films provide a good illustration of what a school House can be. In Harry's case Gryffindor is his home within the school; a smaller community where the he feels a sense of belonging and where he is known in a more personal and individual way. It also fosters a fierce sense of competition, and although we don't host Quidditch tournaments at Dwight, over the past year we have been increasing the number of House activities and competitions to provide our learners with opportunities to get to know the others in their House and to foster the school spirit. I hope you enjoy reading about our House activities in this weeks newsletter.
