Many years ago when I was a school pupil, my success depended very much on my ability to remember things; learning involved lots of drilling to remember "stuff". Times have changed. The children of today have different challenges and do not need to rely so much on their memories, not least because most of us carry a computer around in our pockets that we can consult when our memories fail us.

 

Even the terminology has changed; I was called a pupil, but at Dwight, we refer to our children as students and learners. A pupil is someone who is taught by another - it is a passive role. Whole School Reminders
 

Ski Trip

The Ski Trip this year runs from Saturday, 16th February to Saturday, 23rd February and will be run by experienced skier Mr. Clare. There are still places available here. Please be quick if you would like to join. The whole family are welcome!

 

New Family Survey

The Admissions Department recently sent out a survey to new families and we have had some feedback, but if you are a new family and have not yet completed this, we would appreciate if you would do so. This information is very helpful for the school as we plan how to improve the arrival and settling in process for families new to Dwight. Mary Langford will have resent the link to new families today. We thank you for your input.

Lower School Reminders
 

Swimming Competition 
On Thursday, 15th November we will be sending 16 swimmers from the Lower School to represent Dwight at the Barnet Inter Schools Swimming competition. Good luck to our writers and swimmers!

 

Able Writer's Workshop

On Tuesday, 13th November we have some of our students representing Dwight in the Writers Workshop. Good luck and we look forward to hearing about the day!

 

School Trips

On Friday, 16th November, Year 6 will visit the Imperial War Museum as part of their Unit on Conflict, it is exactly 100 years since WWI ended and I am sure it will be a very reflective and poignant time for our students.

 

Parent Help required for Year 2
Year 2 are learning about services that are provided in our community and we would love to interview people who work in our community and provide services designed to meet people's needs! For example, paramedic, veterinarian, baker, plumber, orthodontist/dentist, carpenter, architect, optician, garage mechanic, etc. This could be a video/Skype call, phone call or a face-to-face interview. If you would be willing to share your knowledge and expertise, please contact Miss. Hendry at khendry@dwightlondon.org.

Upper School Reminders
 

Shanghai Deadline: Dwight Global Music Trip

Due to a rather volatile situation in the flight market and in order to keep the overall trip cost at the current level, we have decided to bring the registration deadline forward from Saturday, 24th November to Friday, 16th November. Please use this form to register and we will be in touch next week to confirm your commitment. Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Kraft with any further questions or queries.

 

M5 and D1 Design Trip

On Tuesday, 13th November, Mr. Turner and Mrs. Payne will be taking the M5 & D1 Design students to Emmanuel Centre for Product Design in Action lectures. The group will walk to Arnos Grove tube station to travel to St James' Park. All travel costs should be covered by TFL group ticket, but students should bring their Oyster card/money in case they require extra travel on the tube. Students should bring packed lunch and spending money for refreshments. We plan to be back by the end of the school day.

 

M3 Theatre Visit

M3 will attend the play Twelfth Night at the Young Vic Theatre on Wednesday, 14th November. They shall be leaving school at 1.10pm after the students have had their lunch and then we will walk to Arnos Grove tube station and travel together to the theatre. The production starts at 2.30pm and is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. After the play, we will be returning to Arnos Grove tube station, with an expected arrival time of 4.15pm, where you can meet your children. Alternatively, we will walk back to school for 4.30pm.

 

M2 French Trip: Bread Ahead Trip Rescheduled

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are having to reschedule the M2 French trip to Bread Ahead. This will be postponed for a couple of weeks, however, we will hold payments for when it is going ahead. Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Danvers with any further questions or queries. 

 

Mandarin Trip

On Monday, 3rd December the MYP Mandarin students will be visiting China Town to explore Chinese Culture. The students will be leaving Spahn Campus at 9.30am and returning for 15.00pm. We will be paying for travel, however, your son/daughter can bring £30 for shopping and lunch. Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Lee with any further questions or queries.
