| Music and Dance
There was no contest for my highlight of the week; seeing Dwight London students perform on stage at the Carnegie Hall was a privilege and a joy. Having witnessed a small part of their hard work in rehearsals I was very excited to be sitting in the audience in anticipation of their performance. They did not disappoint. The concert embraced a variety of musical genres performed in small and large groups, accompanied by dancers. In addition to the Dwight London there were performances by students from Dwight New York, Dwight Qibao, Dwight Seoul, the ICL Academy for Film and Preforming Arts and Dwight Open World School. The collaborations between students from more than one school were very impressive considering they only had a few days to rehearse together. There were more than 220 students on stage for the finale, an ABBA medley. As you can imagine this required an enormous amount of organisation, planning and rehearsing in a small window of time. Parents and teachers from all the Dwight Schools were very complimentary about the Dwight London Samba routine. The performance began with an innovative and complex percussion piece that evolved into an instrumental section that in turn segued into a song and dance number. It really stole the show! Many thanks to Jan Kraft and Becky Thomas who led our musicians with enthusiasm and creativity. Not only did they prepare our students exceptionally well in rehearsals, their energetic presence on stage on the night was a great support to musicians across all the Dwight schools. Thanks also to Krystle Gertig who helped to look after the students on the trip.

| Italian traditions and culture Our D1 and D2 Italian students also had the opportunity for some creative learning this week. On Tuesday the Jubilee hall hosted a workshop on the Italian theatrical art, Commedia dell'Arte, and pizza making. There were plenty of laughs as students got involved in creating and interpreting short dialogues in Italian complete with gestures and exaggerated body language. Despite the dusting of flour decorating the hall, it was pleasing to see the satisfied grins on the faces of the students when they had their pizzas ready for baking. All in all a great way to practise their Italian and learn first hand about Italian culture.

| International Fun Run
It was perfect weather for the Lower School Fun Run and International Breakfast this morning - crisp and cold but clear. Well done to all the students, parents and teachers who ran, jogged, walked, watched and cheered. The younger students ran in the playground and the older students went across the road to the Swan Lane Open Space to run their circuit. It was a great venue as the circuit allowed us to see everyone as we ran around and it wasn’t too obvious how many young people managed to lap me before the 20 minutes were up. After the run we were all ready for a welcoming cuppa and some delicious food from around the globe. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support the event and who provided our delicious breakfast. To view more photos, please click here. | | |
