Learning in the Lower School

It has been an interesting final week before the half term break.

Many classes have been practising their dance routines in PE with Mr. Rehman and Mr. Williams. They are preparing for their class dances on Friday, 26th February. It is always a great spectacle and we have sent an email home suggesting what each class should wear for their performance.

We are also getting ready to celebrate 100 days in school. This is celebrated by our Lower primary students in Year 1, Year 2, Kindergarten and Reception. They count to 100, make masks and glasses using the numerals, and even make bracelets out of 100 manipulatives.

Some of our Lower School students are currently on a ski trip with Mr. Cusack and they sent a photo from France of them on the slopes. We wish them a safe return and Mr. Cusack tells me the trip has gone remarkably well.

Our annual Fun Run and International Breakfast  took place today. We would like to thank everyone for making this such a special Lower School event. Thank you to all the runners, the breakfast makers the preparers and the supporters. To view more photos from the event, please click here.

Year 5 had lots to share at their Mini Exhibition this week. Their work on Space and Planets was incisive and well developed. Many adults commented on the quality of the work.

Super Question and Language of the Week

Our Super Question was: It is the Chinese New Year of the ……………..? Monkey was the correct answer from Shion in Y5L. After half term we want to know - What was the name of the first American President born on Feb 22nd in 1732?

Book Week Celebrations
After half term we are looking forward to our book week commencing on 29th February - during that week we will be celebrating books stories and poems in lots of ways. We will be dressing up as book characters on Thursday, 3rd March and the theme for upper primary is any character from a Roald Dahl book. The Lower Primary children have a free choice as they may not be that familiar yet with Roald Dahl characters. The staff at Lower School will also be dressing up. Our theme is the same as the Upper Primary children, we too are going to choose Roald Dahl character. I wonder if any teachers will come in that day dressed as Oompa-Loompas?

Parent Meetings
We invited several parents to meet our EAL team on Wednesday to discuss bilingualism and to share advice. It went really well and I would like to pass on a big thank you to all concerned.

We will be hosting a larger meeting for parents on Thursday February 25th  in Eco 1 at 1.30pm. This will concentrate on Maths, Language and the IBPYP. It is designed to give details about how we teach and how you can support your child's development. We have sent out a letter with details how to register and look forward to seeing you there.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Mr. van den Bosch who recently completed his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at UCL. We often talk to our students about lifelong learners and it is good to demonstrate this too. I’m sure Mr. van den Bosch and his family will be celebrating over the half term break.

Wrappers Required
Our Upper Primary Classes will be performing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and we need some old chocolate wrappers to help with costumes and scenery. If you have any please drop them off in the art room with Mrs Boughton.
