This Week in Upper School

Parent Association Quiz Night
Our annual Quiz Night is scheduled for 27th February, at 7.00pm in Jubilee Hall. There are still places available for both teams and individuals, to register, please click here.

Board Games
We are encouraging students to play board games in the cafe at lunchtime, if they do not wish to be outside. If you have any board games that you no longer require, which are in reasonable condition, please do have your children bring them in to school. They can drop them off at the school office.

Bake Sales and Fund Raisers
We have had two bake sales this week - Thursday, organised by M4, on behalf of Syrian refugees (also supported by a non-uniform day on Friday) and organised by the Parents Association on Friday, to raise funds for the enrichment of the students at the school. Many thanks to those of you who have contributed towards these bake sales.

Student Council
Our Student Council have been active in restarting recycling schemes in the school, particularly for paper. They are in the process of providing boxes to each classroom for this purpose.

Design
This week the Design department hosted the Upper School assembly entitled Mission Impossible Paper Airplane Challenge. This year the focus was on developing a fun-filled interactive assembly involving all the three Dwight Upper School houses - King, Gandhi and Mandela. Students were set the challenge of building paper airplanes to complete in three categories:

  • Distance
  • Flight Duration
  • Best Design

Students from M3 and D1 did a marvelous job leading the entire activity. After much excitement and 100% participation from all in attendance, Mandela rose to the occasion to claim maximum points as overall winner of the challenge.

M5 e-Assessments
I would like to thank Ms Watson and the other M5 teachers for all the work that they are doing to best prepare the M5 students for the May assessments. Most recently Ms. Watson has compiled and distributed a handy booklet on how to get ready. As ever, we are here to answer questions on a one to one basis if needed.

Personal Project Evening
On 24th February we shall be giving the M5 students the chance to display their Personal Projects and we would like to invite all families and friends to come to see what they have accomplished. We also hope that M4 families will opt to visit, as the M4 students will soon be beginning the Personal Project. The evening will run from 6.00-8.00pm.

IBDP Art Exhibition and Year 5 and 6 Parent Meeting
On 2nd March we host the IBDP Art Exhibition, and that same evening we are also hosting a meeting for Year 5 and 6 families to hear more about the Upper School and the IB Middle Years Programme. Please do try to attend either event, with the doors opening at 6.00pm at Jubilee.
