Friday, 18th October, 2019 Welcome from the Head of School Why Dwight? For some time I have wanted to revisit our vision and mission statements, to make them more accessible to everyone in our community and to ensure that they accurately reflect who we are. Last year I asked groups of parents, students, teachers and support staff to consider the core purpose of the school and to express it in a short statement. Having reviewed their responses, the Senior Leadership Team identified several key themes that ran through the responses. These themes were then expressed in twelve "Why Dwight?" statements.

Sport in the Lower School During the last few weeks, our students have been reflecting on their sports skills as part of the PE curriculum. Sport plays a major role in the Lower School as it is a great way for our younger students to demonstrate elements of the Learner Profile. Lower School Reports sent out and Teacher Conferences on October 29th During the course of the week we have shared the Settling In Reports with you. These give you an overview of how your son/daughter has settled into their new year group / new class or even new school! We have also shared a link with you to assign a 10 minute time slots during our Parent Teacher Conference scheduled for 29th October.

Forest School With the mild, damp, mild weather recently, there had been some changes in the woods. There were lots of different kinds of mushrooms growing from the ground and from trees. We used this opportunity to talk about the fact that some mushrooms may be toxic so we learnt the rule "if you don't know, you don't touch" we then went on a walk looking at all the different varieties growing. Mandarin Trip This Monday, a group of MYP Mandarin Language Acquisition students went to a Chinese Calligraphy Workshop.
They learned about different types of writing and their historical significance, as well as the diverse range of brushes, inks, and ways of articulating marks and compositions.

M3 Spanish students Day of the Dead Trip Friday 1 November This year M3 Spanish students will celebrate the Day of the Dead too as part of their unit about Hispanic festivals which global context is "Cultural and personal expression"; they will learn about all the intricate aspects and rituals taking place on this holiday. After a cultural presentation and a creative workshop on the Day of the Dead, our students will enjoy a typical Mexican Day of the Dead meal at the Mestizo restaurant.
Chessmania This week saw a real battle of mental agility as students took part in our annual Chessmania competition. This is a House vent and had students from the Artists, Visionaries and Pioneers battling it out to become the newly crowned Chess Champion. We want to commend all students who took part and who showed resilience, determination and were real thinkers as they pondered their different moves. The winner of our tournament was Will Hyndman in M4!

Dwight Out and About Club On Friday, 11th October, the Dwight Out and About Club went to the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill. They got to walk through a time-capsule of 12,000 items, created by consumer historian Robert Opie, that showed the history of consumer culture from the Victorian times to the present day. It was a very interesting and informative day out!

Healthy snacks/ healthy eating reminder Reminder to all students that we are a nut free school and that we continue to support children bringing in healthy snacks to eat during the day.
