Learning in the Lower School

Welcome Back - We trust that you had a great half term break!

We had our annual Dance Assembly today. The dance routines are taught as part of the PE curriculum and then shared at the end of the unit. All of the students from Year 1 to Year 6 danced extremely well to a range of different music. They demonstrated enthusiasm, confidence, cooperation and coordination.  To view photos from the assembly, please click here. Videos of each performance can be found here.

We celebrated 100 days in school today. The children in Kindergarten, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a range of activities that were linked to the number 100. To view photos from the day, please click here.

Year 5 have started to look into Migration as part of their Unit of Inquiry. They have begun to use a website called Tour Builder that helps people plot their location histories.

Book Week
Next week we celebrate Book Week across the Lower School. There will be book competitions, guest readers, book displays, classroom doors designed as book covers, book character dress-up day! We even have two authors visiting us on Friday. There is also a river of reading in the hall and a book character disco for students in Years 3 to 6 on Friday evening!

Teacher Training
This half term we have two student teachers joining us. Mr Jack Gibbs is completing his final training and is based in Year 3S class with Mr Slane. Miss Katie Hendry is completing her 4th year of training. She is based in Year 2B with Mrs Bettelheim.  We wish them both well and hope that they enjoy such a rewarding profession.

Parent Workshop
We invited parents to join us yesterday, Thursday 25th February to share our strategies for teaching Maths, Language and the IBPYP. We shared information about how parents can support their child's development. The links above will take you to the presentations that we shared. It is our intention to run this workshop again in the summer term.

Car Park Safety and Driving Safely
Please ensure that you use the designated path when accompanying your child through the Lower School car park. Although we try to use other entrances we appreciate that some families need to come through the car park and as such we want to ensure that they do so safely.

Please be careful when driving to and from school, there have been ice patches nearby and several parents have raised the concern that other drivers are not always adhering to the speed limit.

Super Question and Language of the Week

Super Question
Our Super Question was: What was the name of the first American President born on 22nd February in 1732? George Washington was the correct answer shared by Henrique in Year 6. Next week we want to know: Why do we have a Leap Year?

Language of the Week
Our language of the week was Arabic. We learnt how to say hello, thank-you and please. We were assisted by Yasmina in Year 5 and Sam in Year 3. Next week the language is Japanese.
