Dear parents/guardians, As we continue to closely follow and monitor the news regarding the Coronavirus, I wanted to update you on the measures in place at Dwight London.
I receive daily updates from the Department for Education with information, guidance and advice regarding the Coronavirus and measures school should take. Dwight School will continue to follow the guidance we receive from the Department for Education and Public Health England.
The most important and consistent advice is around personal hygiene and frequent handwashing in order to avoid the spread of the virus. This advice has been shared with students and staff, and we have hand sanitisers available at all school entrances.
Like schools across the country and worldwide, we are preparing for the potential impact of the virus in our own community. Whilst we hope it will not be the case, should the school be closed on the advice of the Department for Education we have plans in place to continue learning remotely through our IT platforms.
The advice for travellers remains the same:
Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people immediately if you've travelled to the UK from: - Hubei province in China in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms
- Iran, lockdown areas in northern Italy or special care zones in South Korea since 19 February, even if you do not have symptoms
- other parts of mainland China or South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan or Thailand in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)
- other parts of northern Italy (anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini), Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar or Vietnam since 19 February and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)
If you fall into any of these categories then: If any families within the school have visited the areas listed above we ask you to contact the relevant lower or upper school office to update us about your situation.
For guidance about how to speak with your children about the Coronavirus, please see suggestions from the Child Mind Institute and the BBC. It is vitally important that we help children understand the facts around the virus, create calm during an uncertain time, and reassure them that the adults in their lives have plans in place to keep them healthy and safe.
