Welcome from the Head of School The show must go on! I am pleased to report that working remotely has not hampered the creativity and energy of students and staff at Dwight and we have been blessed with a variety of learning experiences and performances. So far we have had 28 online concerts arranged by Mr Kraft to keep us entertained and to raise our spirits in the morning. Our Drama students are following, with collaborative drama performances from Upper School students both this evening and next Friday. This week we saw the Lower School students taking part in an innovative and energetic virtual Sports Day and Y3 had a visit to Chester Zoo! Next week the highlight will be the Y6 Exhibition; I look forward to seeing the creative and original approaches they have employed in the presentation of their learning. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, Alison Cobbin In our Final week from June 29-July 1st - In the final (half) week we will be trying to replicate an end of year experience. There will be parties for all year groups. There will be a Prize Giving Ceremony / End of Year Assembly on July 1st and we will be sending off our Year 6s as they complete their final few hours at the Lower School here at Dwight School London. We will also be sending the Electronic Reports home in that week too.
Report Cards - Please note that our final report cards of the school year will be sent out on Tuesday, 30th June after 4pm. These report cards will give a detailed narrative into each subject area and an overall grade, as well as benchmark descriptors on a number of key Approaches to Learning skills in each subject. A more detailed letter will be shared about accessing these reports next week.
Wednesday, July 1st - On Wednesday July 1st we will be having our final student assembly, that all students must attend. This will be from 11am - 12pm after which the school year will officially end. Students will receive a Google Meet link for this event.
Monday 22nd June to Friday 26th June We are moving ahead with our D1 "Extension Week" where the Diploma 1 students will focus on the following: - Extended Essay: Personal Guidance with their EE supervisor
- University applications: Setting up a UCAS account and other university applications
- Group 4 Project: Interdisciplinary collaboration with the science-based subjects
- Tok Presentations: Each student completes their ToK presentation.
Further information can be found in this link; however, it is important to be aware that the students will be 'off-timetable', so they will not be following the detailed plan of synchronous and asynchronous lessons. There will be a huge amount of learning, activities and focused feedback taking place throughout the week; however, with the removal of a timetable, it is an excellent opportunity for the students to use their time effectively, notably in the context of working on their Extended Essay and University applications, before the summer. DPA Used Uniform Collection - If you have any unwanted school uniform at home and would like to donate it to our Dwight Parent Association for recycling and reuse, please contact dpa@dwightlondon.org to make arrangements for collection on a set day.
Wildlife enthusiasts can visit zoos again! Great news that zoos and safari parks have been allowed to re-open from this week! The animal lovers amongst you can take advantage and visit one of these local zoos: - The UK's largest zoo, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, is home to hundreds of threatened species, many of which are part of international conservation breeding programmes including Asian elephants, white rhinos, sloth bears and Amur tigers.
- The iconic ZSL London Zoo's highlights include Tiger Territory, Penguin Beach, Gorilla Kingdom and Land of the Lions
- Paradise Wildlife Park is home to over 500 animals, which include farmyard animals, a huge collection of primates and a big cat territory. Younger kids will also enjoy the zoo's World of Dinosaurs!
- If you prefer to explore nature from the comfort of your car, you can visit Woburn Safari Park. The park covers 360 acres, on the grounds of the beautiful Woburn Abbey, where you will be able to spot white rhinos, elephants, tigers, giraffes and black bears, amongst many others.
We recommend you visit their websites in advance to learn about their safety measures and pre-book your tickets (all venues require prior booking). Enjoy reconnecting with the wonders of wildlife! Dwight London Conservatory Online Recital - Next Saturday, 27th of June, we will be hosting our online Conservatory Recital. Join us at 2pm by clicking on this link. We would love to see you there to celebrate our wonderful and talented students.
