Friday, 25th September 2020 FEATURED NEWS Welcome from the Head of School Preparing to return to school this September was a timely and complex task, and in many ways we were making plans for the unknown as we stepped into the so-called "new normal".
Now that we have been back in school for a few weeks it is time to reflect, and we need your help to reflect on the start of the year in a meaningful way. To this end, I ask you to support us by completing a short back-to-school survey so that we can evaluate the measures we have put in place for a safe return to school in a COVID-19 context.
THIS WEEK AT DWIGHT LOWER SCHOOL Early Years news We have started our new Unit of Inquiry 'Unique Me' and it has been lovely to talk to the children about their likes and dislikes, their favourite activities and their families. Thank you for sharing photos of your families, the children enjoyed talking about those special moments. This week:

UPPER SCHOOL University evening for M5 and D1 On Tuesday, 29th from 6:00pm we will be holding an information session for parents/guardians of M5 - D1 students on university options here in the UK, USA, Canada and further a field.
This session will be conducted via Google Meets and can be joined by clicking on this link. During the session we will talk about next steps in the university process and tools we use to support and guide students. Face masks Every Upper School student needs to be carrying face mask throughout the day. We expect all students to wear face masks during transitions between classrooms, on the buses, when in the cafe and in the hall for assemblies. Enrichment opportunities Once again Ms Delgado has put together a list of amazing enrichment opportunities for Upper School students. Please reach out to Ms Delgado (pdelgado@dwightlondon.org) if you have any questions. Photo day Our individual school photos will take place on Monday, 28th September in the Upper School Library. Please note that students will be required to be in school uniform.
M1 students have PHE on this day and will be able to change into Dwight PHE kit after their photos have been taken. We will be able to offer sibling photos during the retake day but this will be by request only so we can manage student bubbles effectively. WHOLE SCHOOL Year 6 to Upper School transition event On Friday, October 2nd the Upper School will be welcoming the current Year 6 students for a taster morning transition event. The aim of this event is to begin the transition process to the Upper School in terms of familiarising them with the facilities and letting them engage in some exciting and fun learning activities.
This event will run from 8:50am until 12:30pm. Year 6 students should arrive at the Lower School as normal and then we will use the school buses to transport them to the Upper School. Usually we like to have the Year 6 students interact with some of our M1 and M2 students, but for this year and following our COVID protocols we are keeping the Year 6 students in one specific bubble that will not intersect with other Upper School bubbles on this morning.
Keeping safe at school We've put in place a range of measures throughout our campuses to ensure that all students are as COVID safe as possible. In order to evaluate their success, it would be a big help if you could complete a short back-to-school survey about these measures.
If you have children in both the Lower and Upper Schools, please complete both surveys, as the measures are different across the campuses and we value your feedback on each individual campus. THIS WEEK IN PHOTOS Forest School Up at Moat Mount, the children continued with activities linked to their interests and their Unit of Inquiries. Some of these activities included: building a mini city, playing games to test leadership skills, hunting for minibeasts. A personal highlight was getting stuck under a shelter in a thunderstorm. The children LOVED observing the storm from a safe location. Once the storm had passed they enjoyed catching raindrops on their tongues. |
