Don't miss important deadlines for trips, events and more! Friday, 25th Sep 2020 Welcome from the Head of School I was pleased to see such a high response rate to our return to school survey linked to last week's bulletin. It was very reassuring to read that the vast majority of our families feel safe sending their children into school and almost all families know what to do if their child displays symptoms.
For anyone who is unsure, or needs reminding, here is a very clear and simple explanation of the actions required if anyone has symptoms of COVID-19.
Whilst most of us feel safe in school, there are some members of our school community who are feeling anxious or concerned about their health and the spread of the virus. An area of concern for many has been the wearing of masks on buses and in common areas in the Upper School. Read more... IT AGREEMENT This week, students will be invited to sign the school's IT Acceptable Use agreement. This agreement has been developed to highlight to students the appropriate and safe ways in which they may use the school's IT equipment and services.
For example, it commits the students to not sharing personal information online, as well as only visiting teacher-approved sites. In the event of a switch to remote learning, this agreement takes on particular importance due to the extended time students would, by necessity, spend online.
For Upper School students, their tutors will explain the purpose and importance of the agreement and then they will be invited to sign up to it via an online form. In Lower School, class teachers will spend time discussing the agreements with students, how it's incorporated into our essential agreements and also emphasising the importance of being a responsible digital citizen.
Please take a moment to go through the agreement with your child, and if they are in the Lower School help them complete the Google Form. The internet is an amazing learning resource and we as a community want to ensure our students are able to navigate it safely and responsibly. THIS WEEK AT DWIGHT LOWER SCHOOL Prepare for Autumn This week at the Lower School we reminded all children about the importance of bringing in a waterproof coat to school, particularly as the weather is changing and we don't want children to get cold-like symptoms. Friday activities On Friday it is World Mental Health Day and the Lower School staff are also saying goodbye to our colleagues who we worked with last year - both the Hello Yellow activity and Farewell Friday will take place on Friday 9th October. UPPER SCHOOL Service as action It has been so great to see a number of our students engaged in MYP Service as Action opportunities during this term. A particular one I want to highlight this week is from Hui Lim, Auva, Basia, Pratistha and Anete in M4. This group of students have got together to create an initiative that raises much needed resources for the local Homeless in Action project. If you have items to donate from the list below then please send them in with your child. Enrichment opportunities Once again Ms Delgado has put together a list of amazing enrichment opportunities for Upper School students. Please reach out to Ms Delgado (pdelgado@dwightlondon.org) if you have any questions. Face masks in the Upper School As a reminder, all Upper School students are required to bring a face mask to school each day. We have an Upper School mandate that face masks are to be worn in the cafe, Jubilee Hall during assembly, and in the halls and corridors when transitioning between periods. WHOLE SCHOOL World Mental Health Day - Hello Yellow! The whole school will be recognising World Mental Health day by asking students to wear an item of yellow clothing on Friday, 9th October. We encourage you to explore the Young Minds website to find more out about World Mental Health Day and for some useful resources and talking points.
The mental health of young people has been in the spotlight recently given the amount of time spent learning remotely and away from their peers. As a school, we are always thinking about student mental wellness and this is a way of further discussing and sharing relevant information with our community.
Virtual open days If you are thinking about the next step for your child in their education, we have created virtual open days for you to ask questions to staff and current students for both the Upper School (12-1pm 20th October) and Lower School (12-1pm 22nd October). Register for the event here. |
