Read more > THIS WEEK AT DWIGHT LOWER SCHOOL Internet safety at home As the lockdown continues, more and more of us are using the internet for learning, shopping and entertainment. Gaming consoles with state-of-the-art graphics and internet access are popular and selling very quickly. All of this has also led to more spikes in internet safety concerns, cyber attacks, phishing and scams. You will be pleased to know that we host a Dwight London web page that features useful internet safety websites, useful resources and information on such platforms as TikTok and Among Us. As the lockdown continues, it is really important that internet activities are monitored together and be a safer internet user.
We hosted a COVID-19 friendly poppy sale last Friday . Thanks to the Student Ambassadors for volunteering to do this. We sold poppies, bangles and rulers to children and parents for just over an hour and collected £82 on behalf of the Royal British Legion! Thanks to all concerned. UPPER SCHOOL Anti-Bullying Week Anti-bullying week is coming up and we'd like you all to join us celebrating our differences! From the 16th - 20th November, the week will be focused on activities connected to anti-bullying.
Lunch updates We have seen students really enjoying the revised lunch options since the half term break, and hope that you have been getting some positive feedback/rave reviews. We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you the next three weeks of menus for the Dwight Cafe, as well as remind you that we are not selling bottled drinks, which means the need for students to bring in a water bottle is very important! Forest School update Please note that from this week we are going to be walking to a new Forest School site closer to the Upper School.
We will be using a lovely area of Coppett's Wood.
The same timings will apply for students leaving and returning to school. Please and a reminder that boots are needed! THE WEEK IN PHOTOS Remembrance Day On November 11th, the Upper School fell silent for 2 minutes to mark Remembrance Day. The reason we take a moment to remember at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month is because that is when the hostilities ended for World War One. We marked this two minutes of silence with a rendition of the Last Post by our talented music students and Mr Kraft. Forest School skills We know how important Forest School is at the moment, especially during these times. Although we have not been at our usual site, we have tried to make the most of the local open spaces. It has been very muddy but the children don't seem to mind squelching through it.
Tree climbing remains a popular choice. Taking and managing risks is an important part of Forest School and children are encouraged to test their limits but consider their own safety in the process. Some of the children preferred to sit quietly and use peelers to whittle sticks, some invented their own games and others walked in the muddiest spots they could find!
We worked on some problem solving by playing a game called 'knot or not' where I presented them with a tangled rope and they had to decide if, when I pulled the ends, it would make a knot or not. They were fantastic thinkers and communicators as they shared the reasoning behind their decision.
