Friday, 22nd Jan 2021 FEATURED NEWS Welcome from the Head of School At this time of year many of our students are facing choices. Our D2 students are starting to receive offers from universities and will need to choose the next stage for their education. Our M3 and M5 students are thinking about their subject choices for the final years of the MYP or for the Diploma.
The decisions they make now will have an impact on the choices they will have when applying to universities or other career pathways. Our younger students are making important choices as well, with our Year 6 students currently deciding on their lines of inquiry for their Year 6 exhibition.
Making choices can be hard, and as adults, it is tempting to make decisions for our children, particularly if we see they are struggling. As an IB school we firmly believe in student agency... Full story > THIS WEEK AT DWIGHT WHOLE SCHOOL Remote learning survey We really hope we get back to face-to-face learning as soon as we can, but in the meantime we are hoping to get your feedback and comments on our anonymous remote learning provision. These reflections from you really do help to further strengthen our remote learning provision. You are welcomed and encouraged to complete our remote learning survey in collaboration with your child and if you have more than one child you have the option to complete one for the whole family, or complete individual surveys for specific year groups. LOWER SCHOOL Same but different Year 1 and 2 have been discussing the very recent presidential election and inauguration in the USA as part of their PSPE curriculum. They talked about the capital city of America, the 46th President and the first-ever female Vice President too. They even noted how often a presidential election takes place. There were lots of smiles! They ended the lesson with a message on inclusion: "Same but different!" Forest School For our Forest School sessions, the children have been encouraged to get outside and take a break from their screens everyday. I have really enjoyed receiving the 'Outdoor Selfies'. Some of our students enjoyed creating dens and forts - a nice break from being sat at a computer. Please don't forget to keep flooding my inbox with pictures of you enjoying the outdoors! UPPER SCHOOL Date changes - Service Day/Spirit Week We had planned to hold our first ever Upper School Service Day this year on February 12th. This was to be a day when students could be off-timetable and participate in a form of service. Unfortunately, due to COVID we have been unable to fully plan and prepare for this day and the options for physical action in the community were limited. We will plan for this initiative to begin in the 2021/2022 school year.
Additionally, our much loved Spirit Week has been moved to later in the school year. This student-led event was well in the advanced planning stages, but the students and I felt that it would not be the same with us being remote. The week we have in mind for this week is June 14th, and this will align nicely with our Sports Day! The Student Council Weekly Once again, our Student Council has put together a wonderful bulletin cultivating some playlists, recommending their favourite books and introducing some new recipes. Enrichment opportunities Among the range of opportunities Ms Delgado has found this week, the Night of Ideas will be hosting a worldwide film festival as part of a week-long project to inspire thought-provoking, free debates. THIS WEEK IN PHOTOS Pictured: as part of our Forest School activities, several of our students built blanket forts.
