Friday, 29th Jan 2021 FEATURED NEWS I'll confess... ...I made a small sigh of disappointment when I heard that the current lockdown would be extended until at least 8th March. I miss seeing the children in school each day and the casual opportunities to engage with my colleagues when we are in school. With hindsight I can see that we were very fortunate to have managed the Autumn term with only minimal disruption to our face-to-face learning.
However, there have been many positive experiences during our current remote learning. One of the pleasures is the Dwight London Forest School updates on Instagram and seeing photos of students having fun outdoors.
Another has been seeing initiatives of Upper School students contributing to our well-being and encouraging connections despite being unable to be together. Well done ... Full story > THIS WEEK AT DWIGHT WHOLE SCHOOL Calling all Dwight families! A reminder from the DPA that you are encouraged to connect with each other via the Classlist pages for the Lower and Upper School. These are great starting points to keep in touch with each other, ask questions or find out information about life at Dwight. It is a really great resource and various WhatsApp groups and Zoom meetings have been established from these!
Upper School: https://classlist.page.link/GWJS7FoxWpQx4tBi8 Lower School: https://classlist.page.link/z3JyCkDU51SRRcbt6 LOWER SCHOOL Lunchtime clubs restart During the lockdown, we have restarted our lunchtime clubs - including the Dwight Scientists, Woodland Ambassadors, Dwight Eco Rangers, Dwight Digital Leaders and the Lower School Student Council. Each club has an important role to play in promoting learning throughout the school and therefore helping the school continue to improve. Positions in the clubs are elected and change on a regular basis so start thinking about whether you want to be a part of the school's structure! UPPER SCHOOL Social opportunities for students Some comments from the recent remote learning survey indicated that there was a need for us to highlight and/or include some more social opportunities for students within the weekly timetable.
Currently, students are able to connect via Google Meets with each other and can attend our wonderful morning music concerts. The Student Council continues to produce their weekly resource for students, and we are delighted to announce two interactive social house events that have been devised by students. Over the next few weeks there will be a Fifa and Among Us tournament and students (and staff) have been sent a sign up sheet for this! More House Events will be announced shortly.
D2 Solo Plays We are delighted to announce that on Friday, 5th February we will be showcasing our D2 Solo Plays. These plays are a key component of the D2 theatre curriculum and go a long way towards the student's final grade. As part of this event, students will be responding to questions from the audience. All of this will be done via Google Meet.
There will be five 8-minute original solo plays showcased. The students have written and devised these shows themselves, based the style of a variety of theatre practitioners such as Laban, Robert Le Page, Katie Mitchell, Robert Wilson and Pina Bausch. The plays will explore a range of issues, including racism, anxiety, eating disorders, and domestic abuse. We heartily invite you to join us from 4:30pm using this Google Meet link.
M2 Images Campaign The M2 s are pleased to invite you to their Images Campaign on Monday, February 8th at 9:40am - 10:25am. This will be a virtual event, which you will be able to join via the following link: https://meet.google.com/keo-quii-cte
The campaign is part of the students' Language Unit on the power of images. The students have chosen topics they are passionate about, and hope to persuade you - through their diverse use of images - to make some minor changes in your life that can make a big difference to the world. FOREST SCHOOL How exciting that London had such gorgeous snow at the weekend! I had so many lovely pictures sent to me of the children having fun outside. This week, the Forest School virtual challenges have been related to birds and the students were invited to make bird feeders for their gardens or windows. There have been some great efforts and Aby in Year 5 managed to attract a magpie to her apple bird feeder!
Don't forget to keep sending your outdoor selfie photos or join the Instagram challenge by tagging your photo with the hashtag #dwightselfiechallenge THIS WEEK IN PHOTOS Pictured: M1 Design students build a prototype recycled bird feeder for their Wild Bird Conservation project. Pictured: Two of our Lower School students performing at Wednesday's music assembly - thank you to Aydin and Una for their commitment, risk-taking and, of course, lovely music!
