Learning in the Lower School

Our most exciting event this week  was our Lower School Sports Day that featured throwing,  jumping, running, lots of races, a magician, a barbecue, archery, a parent race, lollipops and many happy engaged children. Each child that participated in an event accrued points for their House and at the end of the event, Mr. Cusack, the organiser, handed over the trophy to the winning Captain; Will from The Explorers. The whole day was a success and I would like to thank everyone involved and our parents for making it such a warm, friendly, community event

On the final Friday of the last half-term, the Lower School supported WWF by having a Wear It Wild Day We collected £181, which will help WWF continue to protect endangered species. Thanks to everyone involved. We also celebrated the students that had performed so well during the previous day's Talent Show. They were great, but I do need to apologise to Henrique (the guitar player from Year 6) whom I omitted from last week’s newsletter by mistake.

Year 3 and Year 6 have been getting ready for two important events this half term.

Year 3 will be taking part in a sleepover at the end of this week. They will be staying in school and will be participating in lots of events and activities before going to sleep in the hall. This is good preparation for their residential trip next year that will take place at Moat Mount in March 2017.

Year 6 has started their IBPYP Exhibition work recently. Their central Idea is: Throughout history people have explored, journeyed and settled. Over the next few weeks, they will be splitting into groups and suggesting follow-up questions, lines of inquiry, research ideas and presentation techniques in preparation for their Exhibition on 30th June.

Every year Mrs. Boughton puts together a gallery of the student art work. This year the splendid work is housed in Eco 1. If you get a chance to visit and look through the work, it features samples of portraits, mosaics, collages and masks. It looks fantastic

Super Question and Language of the Week

Super Question

This week our super question was to find out What is the capital city of India? Congratulations to Danny in Year 4 who informed us that it was Delhi.

Summer Fair
The Summer Fair is fast approaching. It will be taking place at our sports ground on Dale Green Road on Saturday, 18th June from 11am - 2pm. As part of the preparations, we will be having a non-uniform day on Friday, 17th. In exchange for the students having a non-uniform day we ask for the students to make a donation for the Fair. These could be books or toys for our Year 5 run Book and Toy stall. They could be bottles for our Bottle Tombola. They could even be used uniforms for our used uniform sale – all uniforms would need to be donated between June 10- 13th in ECO 1. Over the next few weeks, there will be updates about the Summer Fair in preparation for our whole school community event on Saturday, 18th June.

Parental Updates

  1. Please be aware not to park on the zig-zag lines outside the school.
  2. Please note that you should have received a username and password for the Parent Portal part of the website that was launched recently. If you have not received this information please contact Karen Strickland.
  3. Please try to avoid allowing your children to run through the staff car park before and after school. If you have to come through the car park with your children it is important that they are accompanied at all times.

Have a lovely weekend

Kind regards
