Dear Parents,

This week we have:

  • had an apple theme that came from the children's interest in the apple shop role play area.
  • looked at different types of apples and sorted them.
  • painted apples and made apple volcanoes using baking soda and vinegar.
  • explored the possibilities of black and white paint by painting on black and white paper and mixing to make grey.
  • done some splat painting by dunking tea bags into paint and dropping them onto a large paper.
  • continued with our 1 minute challenge by picking up toys with tweezers.
  • explored shaving foam and made a new kind of playdough with cornflour and apple conditioner.
  • made pictograms showing our hair colour and eye colours.
  • learned a new Write Dance song called The Stair Case.
  • made ramps for cars in the garden using loose parts.
  • decorated the wooden frame in the garden with hanging mobiles.
  • cooked some of the apple recipes.

Kindergarten

  • Played Mrs Voica's box to guess which objects were making sounds and played follow the sound.
  • Talked about the differences between shapes and watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJhfl5vdxp4
  • Did some mouth gym exercises and sang the song Bread and Butter.
  • Introduced forest school by exploring boundaries and keeping safe outdoors.

Reception

  • Learned the sounds ck, e, u and r and we read the words: I, the, into, and.
  • Compared 2D and 3D shapes and sorted them into a Venn Diagram.
  • Continued reading books.
  • Read Stick Man in the park and found our own sticks to make Stick Man during our Forest School activities.
  • Used tally charts to play The Blu Tac Challenge where children have to guess which hand a small lump of blu tac is hiding in.

Next week we will:

  • focus on positional language through stories such as Rosie's Walk and We're Going on a Bear Hunt.
  • complete obstacle courses using positional language.
  • continue to explore black and white paint.
  • take black and white pictures.
  • cook some of the apple recipes that you have sent to school.

Action

  • Reception will have a phonics activity to complete (please check book bags or trays).

  • We still need photographs of the front of your house if you haven't managed to do so already.

  • Find a black and white picture that you like and bring it to school (or email it to us).

Notices

  • We will have parent consultation meetings on Monday afternoon which will start at 2.30pm. If you are coming for an earlier appointment, you are welcome to take your child with you otherwise it is a 3.30pm finish as normal.
  • Angela is organising a Halloween Party next week. Please watch out for more information.
