Yesterday, October 20th, was World Values Day. Values in schools are important. Here at Dwight, the IB values are very prominent and are something that we encourage all staff and parents to demonstrate. Year 5 invited a professional values consultant from our Parent Association to help them discuss what values are, why they are important, and how companies and organisations are driven by values. For more information go to www.worldvaluesday.com.
As well as research about values, lots of other learning has been taking place during our last week before the half-term break. In Year 6 they have been writing recount articles for a newspaper. In Year 4 the students have been using the laptops to help find out more about their inquiries into Children's Rights. In Year 5 they have produced some collaborative art pieces based on their trip to an art museum on Monday. In Year 3 Sofia came to interview me and we talked about different people have different perspectives. She taught me how to read my favourite bilingual book called Caperucita Roja. Year 2 and Year 1 were visited by our local dentist who talked to both classes about health and about her role in the community. Both the Kindergarten and Reception classes have been producing lovely black and white art work that has been presented in their Black and White Gallery in the Reception classroom.
Learning is fun, it is an important aspect of our school programme. We want our students to share their learning and so last Friday we invited over 70 parents to be part of their child's learning journey in our Back to School Day. As you can see from the photos, the parents enjoyed their day. They enjoyed our warm and welcoming atmosphere and many of them stayed for lunch too!
Swimming Team and Football Team
Miss Mills has been trialing our swim team in preparation for The Barnet Inter-School Swimming Tournament on November 17th.
The team captains are: Alexander J and Ines S in Year 6. Also in the team are: Milla, Josh, Saranya, Alexander B, Theo, Eliza and Antoni from Year 3 and 4. Along with Alexandra, Alexander J, Marika, Ben, Alice, Joshua M, Sterre, Joshua S, Ines S, Tamar, Rione & Miya in Year 5 & 6 - Good luck swimmers!
Mr Williams has set up several football fixtures for our teams - who have their third match this afternoon.
Student Council and Charities
Each year the Student Council provides a shortlist of charities for the students to vote on as their charity for the year. This year we have a local charity and an International one. Our local one is our neighbour, The North London Hospice, that celebrates its 25th anniversary next year and they voted to support War child as their international charity.
School Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Please help us to be considerate of our neighbours when dropping children off, particularly in the morning. Please do not park on the zig-zag lines or block other cars in. Parking slightly further away from the school and walking in is a good way to get exercise with your child and would help ease the congestion around the school too.
