Choir Festival

Thank you to everyone for their support of the choir festival last week, so professionally organised by Mr. Kraft. It was a pleasure to invite the students from the German School to join us, and we look forward to hosting the event again next year.

International Evening

Many thanks to all the families who so kindly gave their time and contributions to our International Evening on Wednesday. It was a lovely social occasion which was enjoyed by many in our community. Your contributions will enable us to make donations to three charities chosen by the students - the Rett Association, the WWF and for the victims of the recent earthquake in Japan.

M1 Gamelan Workshop

M1D students played on an original Gamelan during their workshop on Thursday. Gamelan originates from Indonesia. In Javanese mythology, the Gamelan was created by Sang Hyang Guru in Saka era as early as 167 (c. AD 230). The workshop took place at the Royal Festival Hall on London's Southbank, the beautiful instruments being a gift from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to the people of Great Britain. The workshop leader was impressed by our students' musicality and attitude – well done M1D!

D2 Mock Exams

It will soon be time for the D2 mock IBDP exams. We have moved them to before the winter vacation this year following the recommendation of Mr. Johnson. Reports for D2 students will now be written after the mock exams have been marked, and will be sent out in the new year.

Reports

M1-D1 reports will be sent out at the end of term. Unlike the interim report, which simply gave an indication of the grade (although this was supported by comments at a parents evening), this report will give much more feedback, including performance in each of the criteria as well as a full comment.

Community Choir

Our next choir session will be on Tuesday, 6th December at 5.15pm in Jubilee Hall. We look forward to seeing you there! For more details, please click here.

Football news from Ms. Goddard

Game 1 - Vs King School

Score: Won 6-0

Goal scorers: Luke, Charlie, Alejandro, Will, Ignacio x2

Man of the Match: Rinta

After a full half term of training, the team, Gabriel (D1 student & Assistant Coach) and I, were very excited about our first game of the season… and we were right to be so as we cruised to victory winning 6-0! It took about 20 minutes to settle our nerves and play to our ability before the goals started flowing in. There were some great technical finishes on display topped off with a stellar performance from Rinta who was awarded our Man of the Match.

Game 2 - Vs Halcyon

Score: Won 2-1

Goal scorers: Luke, Charlie

Man of the Match: Yugo

Image

This was an indoor 7-a-side match played on a long and narrow wooden floor which proved to be a challenging environment to play in… however, the boys rose to the occasion! After a well-matched battle, Dwight went home victorious again. Luke and Charlie snatched the goals to win 2-1. Yugo was our Man of the Match with an outstanding performance as our goalkeeper. A huge thank you to Mr. Dickinson for not only coming to support the team, but also for being the referee for half of the match!

Game 3 - Vs King Alfred

Score: Won 4-1

Goal Scorers: Charlie, Ignacio, Yugo, Alejandro

Man of the Match: Povilas

Over the past few seasons we have played against King Alfred regularly as they tend to be an evenly matched and challenging team; today we put in our best team performance and reaped the reward of another victory! It is clear that training is paying off as we can see the improvement from week to week. It is evident that we are a strong attacking team (another four great goals scored today), but it was the defence who proved to be especially impressive. King Alfred were also a good attacking team with some big threats going forward but our defence handled it superbly. Congratulations to Povilas for earning Man of the Match after demonstrating brilliant leadership skills controlling our back line and guiding the team to its third win and continued 100% record.
