Upper School News

Bonjour!
In our M2 French classes we covered a unit entitled En ville. In this unit students learnt about shopping, food and drinks, quantities and various types of shops around the francophone world.

As part of our Action Service programme, we took part in a three-hour croissants workshop. Students learnt how to make delicious, flaky, buttery croissants in the Bread Ahead Bakery and School situated in the heart of Borough Market and had full immersion experience in French with a talented French Baking Master (qui s'appelle Manuel).

We hope that parents managed to have a little taste of this fabulous day by sampling croissants that the students brought back home!

What a great visit!
On Wednesday the Year 6 students visited for the second time in order to become a bit more familiarized with Upper School. They were welcomed by Ahaan, Dayna, Nelly and Ms. Delgado. After doing some introductions and finding things that we have in common, our M2 students talked to our attentive and well-mannered visitors about their experiences at Dwight when they first joined M1 last year. The Year 6 students then experienced a typical Upper School day with lessons and free time for lunch and games. They had very lively English lessons with Mr. Dickenson and Mrs. Rudez, discovered a few new things in their science lessons with Mr. Dacanay and Ms. McCaffrey, met the challenge of Upper School maths with Mr. Gulhane and finally were transported to China and France by Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Veschi. At the end of the day, Ms. Delgado could not be more pleased with all their impressions about the day and their enthusiasm to return. We are all looking forward to meeting them again.

M1 Art Trip

On Wednesday the M1 students visited the Tate Modern to take part in a workshop with an Artist in Residence who taught our students how to look at and appreciate artwork on exhibition in the Tate collection in an interesting and inspiring way. Students responded to the artwork they had seen by working collaboratively to create their own sculptures, video, friezes and installations in the gallery space.

Young Voices

As we go to press we are delighted to share this photo of our Dwight Lower and Upper School students who have just arrived at the O2 in Greenwich where they are about to rehearse for tonight's Young Voices Concert. News regarding the concert will be in next week's newsletter.

Service as Action

During assembly this week, students were reminded about the importance of Service as Action in the IBMYP. Students should think about different activities that they can do around the school and in their community. In addition, they need to remember to update their entries in coming weeks. If there are any questions please contact Mr Dacanay. We encourage the students to get out there and get involved!
