Early Years Newsletter

This week's news from Kindergarten and Reception

Dear Parents,

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term break.

This week we:
  • revisited our All About Me Unit of Inquiry by making posters. Thank you to everyone for sending photographs for the children to stick on their posters.
  • sent our posters to the rest of the class and asked each other questions.
  • went on a walk looking for signs of Spring and had a paddle in the stream.
  • used red, yellow and blue paints to make beautiful rainbow pictures. The children have been learning how to mix these colours in order to make orange, green and purple and by painting rainbows they were able to demonstrate their understanding.
  • had a lot of fun with storm Doris! We made streamers, flew kites, blew bubbles and released balloons so that we could chase them around the playground.
  • made rainbow oats to play with in the sensory tray.
  • had a lot of fun in our new junk modelling area learning how to join boxes and construct models we would like to continue this so please keep sending empty boxes and tubes.
  • mixed our own potions using syringes and pipettes in our hospital role play area to treat the dolls.
  • made delicious crispy cakes using chocolate and Rice Krispies.

Kindergarten has:

  • made a bag of objects beginning with the sound S and the children attempted to write the sound.
  • learnt the 'S' sound from Jolly phonics:
  • thought of words beginning with a chosen sound.

Reception has:
  • written captions remembering to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
  • reviewed the sounds sh, ch, th and ng by reading and writing words containing these sounds, and we read some simple captions.
  • written labels and captions on our All About Me posters.

  • It is BOOK WEEK
    • On Wednesday we will be involved with a drama workshop.
    • Thursday is WORLD BOOK DAY and we will be doing lots of book-related activities.
    • On Friday the children are invited to dress up as a character from a book and we will be involved in the character parade. We are also celebrating 100 Days of School (although a little late).
  • The children are invited to bring their favourite book from home and we will try to read them throughout the week.

  •  Show and tell has been very popular and we would like to continue. However, we are only going to do this every WEDNESDAY.
  • We would like to make a change to the days that we send home reading books. We are finding Wednesday is a very busy day with our specialist lessons so would like to change books on Thursday instead. That means Reception will now have home reading books every MONDAY and THURSDAY and all children will bring home a picture book every FRIDAY.

Have a great weekend.
