Learning in the Lower School

Lower School Book Week

Book Week took place this week. There were lots of activities and competitions including: a book character potato competition; a decorate the class door in the style of a scene from a book competition; a book character dress-up day. Our guest poet/author Chrissie Gittens visited us on Thursday and shared some of her tips for being a successful author and poet. There was also a writes of passage activity where we asked children, staff and parents to share a book that had an impact on their lives and explain why. These are on display in the hall. It was a great celebration of books and learning for all of the Lower School students.

This week our Y5 and Y6 football team played against Hereward House and lost a hard fought game 3-2. On Friday our Year 3 and 4 football team took on Highgate School and our Year 5 and Year 6 Netball team played against 6 schools in the annual ISA Inter Schools Netball Competition. Thanks to all the students for representing us so well and to the teachers who helped organise these events.

Anneloes Hobbeling and Anna Robertson will be joining us for the next 8 weeks. They are trainee International Teachers in their final year of study from Stenden University, Holland. Ms. Hobbeling will be based in Year 3S with Mr. Slane and Ms. Robertson will be based in Reception with Miss Tomlin. Both trainee teachers are very excited to be joining us and we wish them well during their time here and with their future careers in education.

EYFS visitors

On Wednesday we hosted several teachers and education advisors  from local schools to take a look at our EYFS setting. Our Early Years Setting has been accredited as being excellent and we are proud of the social and academic learning that takes place with Ms. Tomlin, Ms. Voica and the Classroom Assistants. Our visitors were very impressed and are considering us as a flagship school for other visitors to see examples of excellent educational practice.

Music &  Talent Show Auditions

We started auditions in the Lower School for our Talent Show. It was nice to see some funky dancing by Jasim in Year 6, and to listen to some lovely music played by Yu and Miya in Year 5. It was great to clap along to some team based dancing by Tamar, Saki, Emma and Eliza in Year 4, and I really enjoyed listening to the bongo drums played by Aadi in Year 3.

We have sent out several emails reminding parents to check their child's hair as we have had several occurrences of head lice in the Lower School. Please go to to find more details of how to check and treat head lice.

  • School finishes at 3.40pm daily and children who are not involved in after school clubs must leave the school premises by no later than 4.00pm.
  • If you visit the school after 9.00am or before 3.20pm you must register at the front office. Other times of the day are considered pick-up/drop-off times and do not require you to register.
