Learning in the Lower School

It has been another interesting and exciting week in the Lower School. We shared some great work, we showed off some great talents, and we even won an Inter-school trophy!

The key to any successful school is the learning, and following on from Book Week many children have been working together to edit and produce their own stories. I have been very impressed with the quality of written narrative by the Year 5 and 6 students. The Year 6 have shared their stories with different classes on the theme of Conflict, these are displayed in the main school entrance. The Year 5 have been writing Science Fiction stories linking in with their Unit of Inquiry on Space. I was particularly impressed with the work by Joao, who produced work that I would expect to see from someone in their teenage years.

Three cheers for three celebrations
Congratulations to our runners on Wednesday. They represented Dwight School on an unseasonably warm afternoon in North London. Kiran, Rose, Joshua, Alexandra, Gloria, Noah, Koutarou, Elina, Miya, Eliza, Takuya, Alexander, Sterre, Ido, Joshua, Yu, Jake, Theo and Kazuki represented the Lower School. All 20 runners from Year 4 to Year 6 competed in a North London inter-school cross country meet at Highgate. The Year 4 students ran a distance of 1.5km and our Year 5 and 6 students ran 2km. Congratulations to Takuya and Rose for achieving our highest boys and girls placings, finishing 5th and 11th in their races. All of the students should be commended on their efforts. Thanks to Miss Mills and Mr. Rehman, as well as the parents who supported the runners at the event.

Congratulations to Josh in Year 4 who became the first person in the Lower School to get 10 Sparkies, an excellent achievement in a relatively short space of time.  He tells me he is already up to 13!

Finally many congratulations to the Under 8 Football Team who WON the inter-school five-a-side tournament at the Power League on Thursday afternoon. They came back to the school with the trophy held high. It is a great achievement and hopefully some of the boys will go on to even bigger achievements such as playing for Derby County!!! Well done to TaoHai, Alex, Sachin, Raghveer, Raghav, Yuki and Nao. You have won your first trophy for Dwight!

Lower School Dwight Talent Show

What a great day we had on Wednesday. The show featured music, drama and dance and most importantly it demonstrated creativity, team work, commitment, risk-taking and joy. The applause at the end was one of the loudest I have heard for a long time in the Lower School. Congratulations to all of our performers, you made us proud of you and you should be proud of yourselves too. Well done to Clara, Tamar, Alice, Rose, Rony, Sara, Yuki, Ellis, Lola, Sofia, Natsuki, Sasi, Gali, Yu, Lola, Miya Yasmina, Ines, Alex and Ella.

Google for Education Certified Innovator program
Congratulations to Nick Brown, our IT Strategy Manager and Nic Rehman, our Digital Coach, for being accepted to participate in the Google for Education Certified Innovator program. They both came up with visions on how they can innovate in education and will be a part of the year-long program. They will be networking with others and with a mentor to put their visions into action.

  • Please be aware that parking on the zig zag lines outside of school is illegal. Some people are still doing this and we are wary that it could result in a fine at best or an accident at worst.
  • If you visit the school after 9.00am or before 3.20pm you must register at the front office. Other times of the day are considered pick-up/drop-off times and do not require you to register.
  • If you arrive late at school, please take your child to the office to register, we will then ensure he/she gets to their class. You can also email the school at

Super Question and Language of the Week

Last week our Super Question was to find out Which national park celebrated its 37th birthday recently? Joao in Year 5 correctly told us that it is Komodo National Park in Indonesia. Next week the question is What national day is celebrated in Northern Ireland and Ireland on March 17th? - should be an easy one!

Have a great weekend.
