Graduation

We had a wonderful evening last Friday celebrating with our class of 2017. Full details of the evening can be found in the Whole School Newsletter here.

School Trip Week September 2017

As part of a great start to a school year at Dwight, we send our students away on an educational trip so current and new students can bond together and get to know each other and their teachers early on. This year we have planned an exciting set of trips for September including:

M1 and M3 will have a Bushcraft experience. Students camp in the woods at a woodland centre in Monks Green, Brickendon in Hertfordshire. Living in the wild, sleeping under canvas and cooking over open fires, this trip will take our students on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery. Trips include a wide range of activities, designed to enhance social and personal development, whilst having fun and learning new skills. From bushcraft, shelter-building, and wilderness cookery, to archery and orienteering, no two days are ever the same!

M4 are going on a PGL trip! The PHE department are organising a multi-activity trip in Osmington Bay Centre in Dorset. It is a compulsory and inclusive part of our curriculum that will benefit the students' personal development, confidence and teamwork. PGL is the UK's largest provider of outdoor education for young people and has over 55 years of experience. Each day is packed with adventure to excite, inspire and build confidence, bringing a different dimension to the learning experience.

M2 are lucky this year to travel to Normandy, France, for an adventure-activity trip with a French flair as it will be an opportunity to learn more about the French culture. An historic chateau in France will be the setting where Dwight M2 students will engage in activities to welcome new students to the group and to build team spirit, while enabling our M2 French language learners the added advantage of honing their French language skills in an authentic French environment. Regardless of French language proficiency, everyone can benefit from the planned visits to the surrounding area and sampling French cuisine!

D1 will be heading to Norfolk for an outdoor adventure trip and IB Diploma preparation course. By taking students out of a formal classroom environment and into fun and exhilarating experiences focused on challenge and adventure, this will encourage D1 to bond and be captivated, to shine as leaders and become the most enthusiastic about developing new skills.

D2 and M5 students will remain at school but on a special timetable to focus on their Extended Essays and Personal Projects respectively. The D2 students can use this time to re-draft their EE in preparation for the November due date.

Internal Examinations

Soon after the half term break, we shall be holding our annual assessment week. During this time, all students will be sitting assessments in most of their subjects. This will allow the teachers to gain an additional measure on how students have performed this year, and it also gives the students experience of sitting assessments in a more formal setting.

Students in M4 and upwards are expected to be at school during the days and times of the assessments, whilst those in M1 to M3 will sit the assessments within their usual schedule.

Students today will have received a finalised copy of their exam timetable and this will be emailed to all students and families soon.

Sesona in D1 organised a bake sale with M1 students today to raise money for endangered animals.
After a vote, the M1's have decided to adopt a Panda and all the money raised will go towards helping WWF protect the species.

Girls Football

This Monday we played our last senior girls football match of the season and smashed it! We won 10-3, but what I was most pleased to see is the quality of play. The girls dominated from start to finish and represented the school in a fantastic, positive way. Sadly that brings our season to an end now. I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the girls, boys, Gabriel Myers and Keir Miley for your commitment to coming to training and matches, and ultimately getting what you all deserve - all football teams this year finished undefeated!!! I am an extremely proud coach and hope you continue this incredible run into next year!  - Ashleigh Goddard
