Early Years Newsletter

This week's news from Kindergarten and Reception

Dear Parents,

What a fantastic week. We were so proud of how the children performed in the assembly and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Thank you for supporting us. I think we got the biggest applause of the year!

This week we:

  • performed our assembly. Many parents have requested a copy of the Water Busters Video. You can watch it here.
  • completed our end of unit assessment for All About Me by drawing a Map of My Heart - these are just adorable and will be hanging in the classroom for you to see.
  • made a foil river in the garden and raced milk top bottle boats down it.
  • made a bubble potion and tried to make big bubbles.
  • read the story of Three Little Pigs and retold the story through small world play.
  • enjoyed the hot weather by making a water sprinkler with a water bottle.
  • cooled off by putting our feet in a paddling pool.

Kindergarten:

  • read the big book Look out! and then listened to an audio version of the story.
  • revised names of shapes and tried to learn some new shapes such as hexagon, pentagon, oval and octagon.
  • revised the sounds that we have learnt so far.

Reception:

  • started to learn about telling the time. We observed the second hand counting 1 minute and learnt the names of the other hands on the clock. We tried to draw a clock and place the numbers in the correct position on the clock face. We also looked at telling the time to o'clock.
  • learnt the 'ear' sound and wrote the caption I can hear an owl.
  • made different totals with coins, learning that you can make amounts in different ways.
Notices
  • if the weather remains warm, please ensure you apply suncream and bring a sun hat for your child. The children are more likely to play with water and get very wet so you may wish to send an alternative pair of shoes for playing in the garden. e.g waterproof sandals or crocs. You may also wish to start taking home the wellies as hopefully the worst of the rainy days are gone.
  • Please return the blue portfolio books before we break up for the summer. I would like to allow the Year 1 teacher to look at them.
  • IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT HOLIDAY CLUB - there will be extensive maintenance work happening over the Summer and we cannot use the school buildings for Holiday Club for the first 4 weeks. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We hope to run a Holiday Club for 2 weeks from Aug 14-18 and Aug 21 - 25th, to book, please click here.
  • We will have a class party on the last Friday of term (7th July.) This will be a celebration of a fantastic year! There will be a sign-up sheet for party food soon.
