Learning in the Lower School

Assembly Success
This week we have had three assemblies. On Monday, the Year 6 students completed their Exhibition by presenting their work in an assembly to the M1 students from the Upper School. On Wednesday, the youngest children in the school, gave a lovely assembly that included songs, stories, dance moves videos and lots of laughter. They helped us learn about saving water and sharing.  They were excellent and really enjoyed showing off their skills to one of our largest assembly audiences ever! You can view their fun video about saving water here. On Friday, Year 3 shared their learning about the environment, poetry and persuasive writing. They too demonstrated higher levels of learning and a desire to do things well.

Art Attack !

Last Tuesday Mrs. Boughton launched our Art competitions, called Rock Around. The objective is to get the children to paint a rock that reflects them. The stimulus for this idea came from this website. Following the Art theme our student's work from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 was  displayed in the Art Room and art work from the Lodge was displayed in the classrooms and there were lots of fantastic puppets by Year 1 displayed along the stair case.

Next Thursday 29th June we have invited an external artist to join us. She is an expert in wicker, and we are hoping to produce some wicker based items by next Thursday.

Charity Work

As you know the Lower School currently chooses two charities to support each year. Last year we supported an International Charity: WWF and a local charity: The North London Hospice. On Wednesday the Head boy and Head girl presented a cheque to our neighbours at The North London Hospice for £1082.77.

This was raised through numerous school events, donations and the school shop. They were very pleased with the cheque and they wanted us to remind our community that the North London Hospice are organising a Bubble run on the 2nd July and a Street party on the 16th July. Please check their website for details.

Summer Fair Reminder
On Friday we had a Non-Uniform Day. We collected many interesting and exciting donations that will be on sale tomorrow including - emoji key rings, scooters, books, CDs, DVD games, Furbies, robots, jigsaws, used uniform etc.

Summer Fair Dog Show

We are excited to announce that this year we will be holding a dog show at the Summer Fair. The show will start at 11.30am and will include the following categories:

  • Best female
  • Best male
  • Best mixed breed
  • Best pedigree
  • Waggiest tail
  • Best in show

Entry into each category will cost £1 and the overall winning dog will get to take home a lovely dog hamper! Money raised will go towards Friends of the RSPCA Southridge.

Holiday Camp and Science Camp Updates

Due to maintenance work taking place over the Summer break we have had to curtail the amount of Holiday Club slots available. We will be readvertising shortly as there will be now a Holiday Club for children aged 3-6 years on August 14-18 and August 21-25 only. Here is a link if you wish to sign up.  We have had to cancel the Science Camp completely. Here is a link to their website if you wish to go on any of their camps that are hosted at various venues around London mnature.co.uk.
