Whole School Newsletter

Dear Parents,

The year has now well and truly begun; the students are now settled into school routines and summer seems a hazy memory. We are continually reflecting on the way we welcome families and help students settle into their new classes, so please do be in touch if you can think of any way we can improve for next year. New families will have the opportunity to let us know their thoughts in the new family survey that will be sent to you before half term but we are keen to hear from our returning families as well.

As well as welcoming new students we have welcomed several new members of staff and it has been very pleasing to see them settle in and make a positive contribution as well.

Filming at Dwight
We were very excited to have a film crew in school on Wednesday. Dwight School London will be part of a documentary about the IB, being filmed to mark the 50th anniversary of the IB. The diversity of our school community and our inclusive admissions policy drew the documentary makers to our school to see how students from a wide range of backgrounds with a variety of ambitions can thrive on the IB programmes. The feedback from the film crew was very positive. They were particularly impressed with our happy, articulate students who spoke enthusiastically about being part of the Dwight community and the IB programmes.

EAL classes for adults
I am pleased to confirm that we are continuing our very successful English Language classes for adults this year. These classes, which are a great way to meet other parents as well as improve your English, are open to all Dwight parents and members of the community. The classes will take place in the Lower School on Wednesday afternoons. Please click here to learn more about the classes and to register your interest.

Meet the Head
I am always interested to hear the views of parents and to get to know them better. To facilitate this I am hosting a number of "Meet the Head" events this term. They will be informal discussions with small groups of parents over a cuppa, where I can hear about your experience of being a parent at Dwight and you can ask me questions about the school. The meetings will take place either in the morning (7.45 or 8.30am) or in the evening (6.00pm) on various days to accommodate as many different schedules as possible. To allow everyone's voice to be heard numbers to each event will be restricted. Please click here to register your interest and reserve a place at one of the events.

On-line payments with WisePay
After half term, the school will be moving a new on-line payment system for all school expenses, including paying for school trips, lunches, busses and music lessons. Every family will have an account and information regarding usernames and log in details will be provided shortly, in a separate communication.

For students in the Upper School we will also be moving to a cashless cafe, with biometric identification through fingerprints, linked to WisePay accounts. Once the cashless system has been set up, parents will be able to see menus and top-up accounts from anywhere with an internet connection and they will also be able to keep track of their children's spending and even see what they have eaten for lunch. More information about the new system and permission forms will be sent to Upper School families in the near future.

Can you help?

One of D1 students is looking for a homestay placement from January. Eleanore, who is from France, is a cheerful, helpful 16 year old who is looking for a family to live with and in exchange is offering child-minding and French language tuition. You can find out more about Eleanore here. If you are able to help, or know someone who could, please contact the school office:

Best wishes
