Lower School Newsletter

Learning in the Lower School

Some activities that took place this week
Kindergarten and Reception students visited a railway station this week and had a lot of fun. We were visited by more than thirty parents this week as part of our Open House and they were all looking at joining our school. Year 4 and Year 5 completed some writing assessments and Year 6 prepared for their assembly about their residential trip.  I like to spend some time reporting back on our after school activities, this week I spent some time with the Radio Club hosted by Miss Hendry and Miss Larragy, the students were making sound effects for the radio, above are Sofia, Ellis and Oliver making their sound effects.

Friday Assembly

The assembly this week focused on the Year 6 trip to Bushcraft. This was a very good team building exercise as our Year 6 students got to meet with M1 students and Upper School staff. The Year 6 students shared their learning and their experiences of living under canvas for a few days. Their assembly was witty and reflective - well done Year 6!

Our Boys Football Team  played against St. John's School last Friday afternoon, and Gower school on Tuesday. Mr. Rehman and Mr. Williams were very pleased with the effort and energy demonstrated by the team. We lost 5-0 on Friday to a very good side, and followed it up with a 7-2 victory on Tuesday, with five goals scored by Noam (Year 6), and one each from Anthoni and Sam (Year 5).  Our boys B team also played a match against Gower losing 7-2 with goals from Stefan (Year 6) and a right footed goal by Lorenzo (Year 4).

Year 6 to visit Upper School

One of the key roles of the school is to prepare your child for the next part of their education. A key transition is between Year 6 in the Lower School and M1 in the Upper School. Year 5 have already had a visit to the Upper School this term and next our Year 6 students will visit the Upper School on Monday, 16th October. They will be taken from Lower school to Upper school in the morning. To help with their transition they will be dismissed from Upper School Jubilee campus and Ms. Dunaway will be there to oversee the end of school process.

ACE Time and Parent Workshop

On Wednesdays and Thursday, 18th and 19th October, we are hosting an ACE Time session followed by an IBPYP Parent Workshop.

ACE time, stands for Adult and Child Evaluation time. During an hour slot (you do not need to attend for the whole hour) your child will have the opportunity to share with you their learning, discuss their learning process and receive feedback from you. ACE Time will run across two days, these will be as follows:
Kindergarten, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 - Wednesday, 18th  October from 9am - 10am
Years 3 to 6 - Thursday, 19th October from 9am - 10am

The Parent Workshop will take place in the Eco 1 classroom straight after. The workshop will be repeated on both days. It will be about the IBPYP (IB Primary Years Programme ) It will be led by our IBPYP Coordinator Mrs. Brooks. It will give a general guide into what the key aspects  are within our IB accredited school, and how that impacts your child's learning.  It is applicable to all parents with children in the Lower School and it is a Parent Workshop that we repeat each year so previous attendees need not attend if they do  not wish to. Super Question and Language of the Week

Our Super Question last week was:  Who recently said we will be travelling by rocket soon, and that it will only take us 29 minutes from London to New York? The answer was Elon Musk, a businessman who has also pioneered driverless cars. Guillerme in Year 1 brilliantly gave the right answer and gets a Sparky for being knowledgeable

Our Super Question this week was sourced by two students in Year 5. They wanted to know What is the most visited city in the World? - Saranya and Elina get a Sparky for setting the question. Let's see if we can find out the answer!

Have a good weekend.
