The past couple of weeks have raced by as we have celebrated the start of the new school year, preparing and planning, welcoming new families and catching up with old friends.
The start of the year kicked off with staff training on 31st August and it was a thrill to have all the staff physically present in the same place for the first time since January 2020! We welcomed new members of staff, revisited our mission and priorities and worked collaboratively to prepare for an exciting year of learning ahead.
It was great to meet so many new families at our Ice Cream Social and at our new student orientation events and I sincerely hope that you settle quickly and find a family here at Dwight.
After COVID testing on Monday morning, I waved off our Diploma students and four intrepid members of staff for their week of adventure in Wales. On Tuesday, there were smiling faces and the excited chatter of students in the corridors and playgrounds across the school, and I was pleased to hear positive feedback from the students at the end of the day. All-in-all, it feels that we are off to a good start!
It was also a delight to see parents back in and around the school - we have missed you! Next week, the Middle Years students will be away on their residential trips, so there should be a few Dwight households enjoying some extra peace and quiet.
This week was also a time for goodbyes, as we said farewell to Mary Langford, who has been a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team as the Director of Admissions for the past eight years. Mary’s extensive experience and understanding of international education will be missed. After over 40 years of working in education, Mary is taking a well-earned retirement, although with an EdD to complete and her responsibilities with several charities I know she will keep herself very busy!
Mary leaves big shoes to fill, and I am delighted to announce that Lucy Lam-Po-Tang, who has been working part-time in our Marketing department for the past year will be stepping into those shoes as Head of Admissions. Lucy has been a parent at Dwight for six years and has a deep understanding of the school. She is looking forward to taking the baton from Mary and guiding prospective families through the admissions process and helping them to have a smooth transition and warm welcome to Dwight.
Wishing you all the warmest of welcomes to the new school year and I am looking forward to working with you to provide the best possible education for our children over the coming year.
